State Plans Distribution To Schools In Ohio

Ohio school funds under the new foundation law will be distributed as of February 29 with early March receipt expected. Distributions occur on or before February, May, August and November. districts will receive a proportion now and may issue deficiency notes for the balance under house bill No. 635. Rural boards in Clermont county owe about $15,000 for foreign tuition awaiting notes.

Batavia boy scout troop begins re organization with a first meeting on March 4 at the O N G Armory. All eligible boys urged to attend and plan immediate registration. State seeks bids on Afton crossing project

The State Highway Department announced bids for the overhead crossing at Afton will be opened in Columbus on Tuesday March 17. The project is estimated to cost 69 833 67 dollars and will eliminate a dangerous railroad crossing in the county.

State Approves Bethel School Addition Contract

State Director L A Bouley of the Public Works Administration announced the award of the general contract for the Bethel school addition. Ohio State Construction Company of Columbus, Ohio received the $35 097 81 contract for eight new classrooms a commercial typing room study hall library a large Home Economics room and a manual training room. The district will get a federal grant of $22 500 to aid financing.

Hayden Speaks At Road Confab in Miami

National highway improvement celebration brings leaders together in Miami Florida February 22 with speakers from across the states. Notables include John J Hayden Felicity Ohio commissioner of the Ohio Highway Planning Board and George C Diehl former AAA president. Mayor Fossey introduces Hayden. Youth Held for Burglary in Olive Branch

Edward Lutes, 19, of Olive Branch was arrested Sunday by Sheriff G. G. Auxier and charged with burglarizing Homer Malott’s home Saturday night. Loot included rings a gold watch pins and about 5 dollars. Lutes pleaded guilty at arraignment before Justice J. M. Wiseman and was bound over to the Clermont County grand jury under a 500 dollar bond.

Allen O'Neal Smith Charged With Selling Mortgaged Auto

Allen O Neal Smith alias Curtis O Neal Smythe, 28, of Kentucky, was arrested in Bethel by Sheriff Auxier and deputy on a charge of selling a mortgaged auto. The vehicle reportedly belonged to Carl Painter of New Richmond. Smith was taken to New Richmond by Marshall Frank Perry.

Chicken Stealing Ring Smashed by Sheriff Force

Four men were arrested in Manchester on a yearlong chicken theft ring. Sheriff G. G. Auxier and deputy Frank Abbott secured confessions from three suspects. Defendants George Lindsey, 20, Herbert Yonas, 20, Elbert Sells, 19 of Bethel and Glen Bailey, 19 of Manchester are jailed. Three others are implicated, two in custody elsewhere.

Milford and Williamsburg Favored in Bethel Cage Meet

Clermont County high school basketball teams converge at Bethel for the county tournament. Milford holds a 15 1 record with a lone loss to Reading while Williamsburg is strong. New Richmond is a dark horse. Buddy Denham leads. Opening games Friday 7:30 New Richmond vs Amelia and Goshen vs Batavia. Saturday schedule includes Bethel vs Felicity and Williamsburg vs Owensville, followed by Milford vs Moscow. Semis Saturday night and finals Monday night.

Japanese leader Kagawa will visit Columbus on March 6 and 7 for closed sessions with delegates from 88 counties. Trustees Elect New Officers in Clermont Township Group

Leslie D. Pardue of Wayne Township was chosen president of the Clermont County Association of Township Trustees and Clerks at the February 20 meeting. He succeeds Harry Clark of Monroe Township. New officers include Thurman Fee Franklin Township vice president, Charles Workman Williamsburg Township secretary treasurer, and Fred Aicholtz Union Township state executive. Key speakers were C. J. Mack Sauer Delivers Talk at New Richmond Masonic Lodge

Mack Sauer of Greenfield was principal speaker at a George Washington stag party hosted by the New Richmond Masonic lodge on Friday night. Sauer delivered a humorous address to a large turnout after a fish supper prepared by Harry Metzger Clyde Smith Dr Harry Buchanan Halder Few Arthur Conner and steered by C F May. The Laurel quartet M. H. McNeil Charles Simmons Louis Rahn and Henry Schenz took first in the New Richmond amateur contest last Tuesday night. The same group recently won the Amelia amateur event. Jack Smith of Hamlet won the juvenile division.

Batavia Youth Captures Middleweight Title in Cincinnati

Batavia’s Pete Urban, a Route 74 resident two miles east of Batavia, won the middleweight crown in the Golden Gloves in Cincinnati and now represents the Queen City in a national event in Chicago. His expert performance impressed Cincinnati fans and fight managers forecast a bright future in boxing.

Clermont Tax Collection Opens March 2

Clermont starts collecting personal and real estate taxes Monday March 2 under County Treasurer J M Fitzpatrick and County Auditor Blythe Jones. Final day is April 20 with no extensions. Offices open weekdays 8 pm to 4 pm and Saturdays 8 am to 1 30 pm. Real estate bills are ready and personal taxes require filing with the auditor or deputies. Taxes in most districts are expected to decrease slightly.

Sheriff Arrests Georgetown Man Dwight Windsor

Dwight Windsor of Bethel, 24, was arrested by Sheriff G. G. Auxier and Deputy Frank Abbott and turned over to Georgetown Marshal Wingate. Windsor, who recently served time for driving while intoxicated and had a revoked license, was observed driving in Georgetown last Friday. after a chase he escaped. He will be charged with driving while intoxicated and carrying concealed weapons in Brown County.

Citizens vote on 6 mill special levy for street work

Milford residents will vote in a special tax election on March 24 to fund street construction. The plan aims to raise about $20,000 with $100,000 from the Federal government. The levy would extend 6 mills for 3 years and some property may be condemned for widening the street. the council filed the resolution with the county election board on Thursday.

Mr and Mrs James C Board Celebrate Milestones at Mulberry

The couple marked their golden wedding anniversary and Mrs Board’s seventy second birthday at their Mulberry home.
