Batavia Captures Clermont County Tourney Title at Williamsburg

Batavia High School won the Clermont county basketball tournament at Williamsburg, defeating Owensville 28 26 in a dramatic Monday final after opening with a close win over Milford. Batavia also beat Bethel and New Richmond, with Milford and Amelia both earning notable showings in Saturday action. The Batavia roster included Henry Smith captain Chas York James Walker Elmer Kramer Franklin Wiseman Clarence Brown Cleo Carter Louis Fishback, and the team will advance to the district tournament in Dayton.

Major J. B. Wallace Dies After Long Life in Ohio

Major J B Wallace long resident of Milford and Batavia dies at Christ Hospital after a three day illness in his 88th year. A real estate man and 60 year Mason he left two daughters Pauline and Ina and son J Bruce Wallace of Cleveland. Funeral at Milford M B church 2 pm Wednesday with Greenlawn Cemetery burial. Mr and Mrs Cleve Hoes and son of Springfield visited Sunday.

Chicken Thieves Terrorize Miami Township Areas

Housewives in Miami township near Mt. Repose and Guinea report a string of nightly chicken thefts. Thieves vanish with entire flocks leaving only a lone rooster at dawn. Mrs. Katherine Alexander lost 40 Plymouth Rock hens worth 100 dollars, and Mrs. Lew Hoffman suffered heavy losses. The Horse Thief Association may take up the matter.

New Richmond man plans three month trip coast to Seattle

Russell Wyatt of New Richmond visited Batavia Monday and announced a three month journey starting Wednesday. His route goes down the Mississippi, along the Pacific coast to Seattle, across the country to Minneapolis to visit his aunt Mrs Daisy Wyatt. He asked for a safe trip home.

Flapper Grandma Show Delights Town Hall Crowd

A Town Hall performance titled the Flapper Grandmother by local talent drew a full house last Wednesday night. The event, organized by the school, raised about $40 for its share as the 40 piece school band enhanced the program and plans for a possible reproduction were mentioned.

County Hires Second Public Health Nurse

The county adopts a health fund balance policy to hire a second public health nurse. Ruth Brower of Milford, previously with Drs. Vail in Cincinnati, will handle eye ear nose and throat work along with general duties. The nurse will travel at her own expense and be paid 1500 yearly.

Clermont County Enforces Dog License Rules

Clermont County reports loss of many dogs due to owners not buying license tags. About 8500 dogs exist in the county. Last week 30 Franklin Township dogs without licenses were kept three days at the county pound and then put to death unless redeemed by license payment. A mad dog scare spurs enforcement. licensing is urged as the fee for a good dog.

On February 24 the Ladies' Aid of Bloom Rose church met at Mrs. Goldie Curry's home. The all day session included devotionals, business, a contest won by Mildred Connor, and a table laden with seasonable eats. Mrs. Curry marked Mabel Mulloy's upcoming birthday with cake and ice cream as attendees recalled memories during the group’s 98th anniversary.

Soybean Seed Shortage Warns County Farmers

County Agent Wm. G. Winemiller warns that Midwest soybeans with high germination are scarce. Much of what is sold as Midwest is mixed or immature with germination often 60 to 90 percent. Virginia Brown and Wilson Black are recommended varieties with tests above 90 percent, and buyers should secure seed early to ensure quality.
