$47 Million Fifth Generating Unit Rises at Beckford Station

The Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company builds a 259000 kW fifth unit at Beckford Station near New Richmond. A $1,000,000 smokeless stack crib house will support the unit and water treatment facilities. Total CG&E capacity across Beckford Miami Fort and West End stations will reach 1510000 kW when completed in 1962.

County Invests 200000 in Government Bonds

County commissioners approved investing 200000 of county funds in government bonds to earn interest until needed for expenditures. Treasurer and Auditor proposed the move, following an opinion from Prosecuting Attorney Ralph A. Hill that the county may invest idle funds in interest bearing government bonds.

Clermont County schools will share in a $38,275,383 distribution of state school foundation funds. The county total is $682,356.47 for public schools, with Loveland receiving $76,279.95 and New Richmond $25,432.24, Milford $101,167.07. Local districts receive $18,222,337.31. exempted villages $3,388,755.41.

A memorial plaque honoring Dwight D. Eisenhower's 1952 nomination will be donated to Gettysburg National Park by the Republican National Convention Delegations Memorial Committee. Batavia attorney Forest Ely, a Republican delegate from the district, will have his name inscribed in bronze per committee chairman D. M. Merrell.

They accuse Batavia Police Chief Edward Colonel of assault and battery after an incident at Colonel home while seeking a warrant for Charles Colonel. The Kelleys allege deputy clerk Colonel's closeness to judges risks an unfair hearing.

County Accepts Four Roads and Appoints Chest Clinic Board

County commissioners accepted four Pierce township roads Locust Lake subdivision Orchard Drive Club House Drive Locust Drive and Ridge Road as county roads. They also directed stop signs at Grant and Ohio Streets at the Bethel Maple Pike intersection and imposed a three ton limit on De La Palma Road due to a weakened bridge. The board of trustees for the Clermont County chest clinic was enlarged with Dr James MacMillan Dr Phillips Greene and Harry Danner succeeding a five member Tuberculosis and Health Association board.
