Medical Society Endorses Simmons for Clermont Health Board

The Clermont County Medical Society recommends Dr. Charles Simmons of Bethel to fill the vacancy on the county health board left by Dr. A. Gordon Schulze. The Health Advisory Council will meet Monday March 6 to consider the appointment, with Simmons a former board member.

County Fund Investment To Be Discussed Friday

Treasurer Byron Ross and Auditor J F Paschal will meet with county commissioners Friday afternoon to decide how much of the county funds on deposit or unencumbered can be invested. Prosecutor Ralph A Hill recently advised they have authority to invest in active deposits in interest bearing government funds.

Jury Indicts 13 Lands Officials in Clermont County Case

Clermont County Grand Jury indicted 13 individuals this week and ignored charges against six others. Among those charged were Glen Townsend and Harold R. Combs for robbery in the Grady Roy incident, with $600 allegedly taken. Other names faced counts of attempted breaking and entering, larceny by trick, and related offenses. Some cases were dismissed, including charges against Walter Sayler and Rena Breeden.

County tests discontinue dog stun gun use

County commissioners voted to discontinue the tranquilizer gun used by the county dog warden. The decision followed a letter from the Clermont County Humane Society asking for abolition and for the Board of Commissioners to assume responsibility for the instrument. The meeting also accepted Colonial Drive in Colonial Acres as a township road and authorized right of way for repairs on 12 Mile Road near Raymond Oetzel’s property due to a passing bottleneck. New Richmond school authorities cited dangers for school bus travel on the narrow road.

Milford Council Delays Home Rule Charter Election

Milford council delays authorization of a special election to form a home rule charter commission pending finance and ordinance committee study. The panel will meet Feb 28 with Chamber of Commerce representatives. Petitions by 10 percent of voters are required in addition to council approval.

Fox Bounty Cut By Commissioners

Clermont Countians who hunt foxes for the bounty face a pay cut as commissioners vote to reduce the payment from three dollars to two dollars per fox. Only eighty nine dollars remains of the 1961 bounty fund after most of the five hundred dollars was used to cover last year’s bills.

Clermont County musicians of all ages are invited to join a new municipal band in the eastern Greater Cincinnati area organized by the YMCA Delta and Columbia Aves. The band will be directed by James McBeth of the Cincinnati Syrian Shrine Band. Musicians may call the YMCA for details.

Humane Society Names Agent to Probe County Cruelty

Sheridan Begley of Neville was named the Clermont County humane agent succeeding Fizie Flora. The appointment was approved by the Humane Society and confirmed by Probate Judge Halbisch. Begley will handle all cruelty investigations and receive reports at TR 63237 or US 33201. The society also urged ending use of tranquilizer guns by the dog warden, a move the commissioners approved.

New Post Office Building Plans Approved at Pleasant Plain

Plans and specifications for a new post office in Pleasant Plain have been approved by the U. S. Post Office Department and are on display. Postmistress Alta Sharp is accepting bids with a February 28 deadline. The facility will be built on a village-owned lot on Route 132 beside McHenry's store.

Emergency Gate Bidder Named at Meldahl Dam Work

CHILD Al Johnson Co of Minneapolis was the low bidder at 19.8 million dollars for the construction of a dam and lock emergency gate at the Capt Anthony Meldahl Dam on the Ohio River near here. Locks for the Meldahl Dam are more than half finished on the Ohio side of the river. When completed the dam will cost 77 million dollars and replace four dams.

Bethel Man Shoots Teens Over Gasoline Theft

Two 16 year old youths were hit by buckshot from a shotgun fired by Ralph DeVaugh of Bethel as they fled from his parked car where they were taking gasoline. They were treated at Brown County Hospital and released to Clermont County juvenile authorities.
