Courier Office Closes for July 4 Holiday

The Courier office will close Monday for the holiday. Employees will observe the Fourth of July. Correspondence news items and advertising copy should reach the office before 5 p.m. Saturday.

Health Dept Commended On Hearing Vision Project

Clermont County Health Department earned the highest commendation from the Ohio Department of Health for completing a successful hearing and vision screening program in county schools this spring. The luncheon critique at the Homestead Inn included participants and Ohio Health officials.

Auditor reports February 1966 tax settlement totals

H Earl Metzger announced the February 1966 settlement of 3 967 538 85 in the General Fund from December 1965 real estate taxes. Disbursements include 272 173 26 to townships 3 021 169 51 to schools 130 232 76 to villages and multiple fund allocations across departments and programs.

SR 125 Project Gets Underway Within 60 Days

Ohio spends about 3.5 million dollars to widen SR 125 from Amelia to Bethel, relocate 3 miles of SR 222, and replace bridges over Poplar Creek Back Run Creek and Town Run Creek. Construction starts late August with 45 day detours.

No Charges Filed After Cafe Parking Lot Shooting

Charles Napier a 24 year old Fair at Samaritan Hospital underwent surgery for gunshot wounds to the stomach and right arm after a shooting in the White Owl Cafe parking lot at US 52 and SR 222 last Thursday. Nina Dunaway 22 said she accidentally discharged a .38 revolver during an argument with Napier. Sheriff Watson reported no witnesses and the incident was deemed accidental.

Goshen Girl's Toes Severed in Lawn Mower Accident

Brenda Darling twelve year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Ralph Darling suffered the loss of four toes on her left foot when a lawn mower cut them off last Wednesday. County sheriff Hamilton County and Cincinnati police worked to rush the toes to Good Samaritan Hospital but doctors performed a skin graft instead of a graft. The girl was mowing at her home when the accident occurred.

County Roads Fund Distributes 31 817 48 to Clermont Area

State Auditor Roger Cloud announced the June 1966 distribution of auto license revenue totaling 8 399 721 40 to counties and townships. The Clermont County and the townships received 31 817 48 as part of the road mileage disbursement with 2 999 900 50 going to townships and 5 399 820 90 to counties.

Supreme Court Reverses Annexation Incorporation Rulings

Ohio Supreme Court ruled that appeals on Beckford City incorporation and Pierce Township annexation are appealable and sent the case back to Clermont County Common Pleas Court to decide priority between incorporation and annexation petitions. The decision reversed the First District Court of Appeals which had upheld dismissals.

Sesqui Art Show Plans Revealed

New Richmond offers a four day Sesquicentennial celebration with an art show from August 4 to 7 on Front Street. Open to adults and high school students, entries must be framed and sized 8x10 to 28x32 inches, with two dollar fees and forms from Fred Noah or Delly Robertson. Judging by Cincinnati Art Club members precedes the event.

Health Council Backs Clermont County Hospital Plan

The Clermont County Committee on Health and Welfare endorses a county hospital and a county Park and Recreation Commission. Meeting at Batavia, the group urged the county to appoint a 12 to 15 member park and recreation panel and to fund a countywide survey and development plan. Medicare's expected impact reinforces the need for hospital facilities.

Dip N Sip opens at 421 West Main Batavia with Ronald Swisshelm and George Thomas as owners, extending the chain from Fairfax. The Char Grill menu features coal grilled and broiled specialties with carry outs available, and hours run 5 30 am to 10 pm daily and 10 30 am to 7 30 pm on Sundays.
