Courier Building Rises On Rt. 74 Edge Of Batavia

Masonry firm John Petri and Sons of Amelia push the new Courier plant walls toward completion on Route 74 at the western edge of Batavia. The ultra modern cut stone and Roman brick front nears finish as the firm also builds St. Bernadette school at Amelia. Publisher Jerald B. Fortney invites locals to watch the work, noting the plant will be Clermont County’s first in years built for publishing.

County Salaries Show Decline in 1955 Despite State Trend

Clermont County and 19 other Ohio counties reversed the rise in county official pay in 1955 with a total payroll of 350 117 down 32 255 from 1954 while statewide payrolls rose by about six million. Per capita costs were 8 30 in Clermont and 8 51 in Drake County. The Amelia Golden Needles 4H Club met June 21 with roll call on favorite songs and demonstrations on manners.

Gold Mine Firm Is Reorganized

New Richmond John W. Haussermann, president of Benquet Consolidated Mining Co., announced the company has been reorganized and reincorporated as a Philippine law corporation subject to stockholder approval. The new firm will issue 18 million shares, 12 million to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange on a share-for-share exchange, with 6 million kept in treasury for expansion.

Driver Escapes Collision With Train Near Milford

Robert Lovins of Tealtown Road escaped injury when his car skidded onto Round bottom Road railroad tracks and stalled as a Norfolk and Western freight approached. He jumped from the vehicle before the westbound train struck it, damaging a flasher signal and demolishing the car.

County Revenues Double From 1947 To 1955 Across Counties

County auditors report revenue receipts across 88 counties totaling 364 million dollars in cash available after a 1947 figure of 114.8 million. 1955 revenues rose over 27 million dollars from 1954 marking the era’s largest one-year uptick. Clermont reported 1.49 million in revenue. Expenditures statewide reached 28.9 million with major shares to operation and maintenance, capital outlay, and non-governmental costs.

Firemen Sign Pact to Restore Town Fire Protection

Newtown township trustees met Tuesday night and renewed a $3500 contract with the Newtown Fire Department to provide fire protection from Clough to the Miami River for about 800 families. The pact retroactive to June 1 1956 also notes plans to form a fire district affecting several plants. A Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co 25 year contract will supply city gas to the village with a high pressure line expected by September. At the council meeting, traffic improvements were approved at the corner of Valley and Church Streets. Lyle Cann was appointed service manager for Dietz Ford Sales Batavia replacing the former shop foreman and will lead a staff of mechanics.

Deputy Auditor Dies In Hospital

Arthur Meinken, 70, of Newtonsville, Clermont County deputy auditor, died early Saturday at Christ Hospital after surgery. A former Clerk of Courts, he served as deputy sheriff and in the engineer's office. He was Owensville Bank vice president and village clerk of Newtonsville. Services held Tuesday at Hannah funeral home in Blanchester. Survived by widow Florence and sister Adele Board of Cincinnati.

Community hears boundary plan for Route 125 sidewalks

A Citi zens Improvement Committee delegation met with engineer Julian Paxton in Middletown to set sidewalk boundaries west of Withamsville Tabasco School to W T Park, including the mile limit for schoolchildren.
