Hail storm damages crops across townships and state

A severe hail storm last Thursday damaged crops in this locality and beyond. Tobacco and corn suffered greatly with some replanting needed as blades were shredded and large plants damaged. In Miami township hail covered ground for an hour and reports from North Carolina cite multi million dollar losses.

Milford Hospital Care Drive to Start Thursday

Milford launches a community wide hospital care enrollment drive led by a Kiwanis committee headed by Louis M. Klenne. A. M. Hauefle of Hospital Care Inc spoke at Town Hall with PTA Progress Club Garden Club American Legion and Boy Scouts present. A 50 percent enrollment is required for the program to take effect. Residents from Milford and nearby areas qualify, with those insured through Cincinnati employers credited to Milford’s quota.

Milford Soldier Weds English Girl

Lieut. Louis H. Speidel Jr. and Miss Ann Offer wed June 15 in Chelmsford England. The bride lives in Chelmsford and the couple will honeymoon in Scotland before Speidel returns to France with a B 26 Marauder squadron as supply officer. He has taught English and mathematics as part of the post Day Army education program after training at British and French universities. Overseas 20 months, he is a Miami University graduate and was a Cincinnati chemist before joining the Air Force three years ago.

Dairy Payments Change July 1 In Clermont County

Dairy farmers in Clermont County will receive increased dairy production payments starting July 1 as the summer rate schedule takes effect. The new July to September rates are 45 cents per hundredweight for milk and 13 cents per pound for butterfat, with previous months at 60 and 25 cents respectively for April through June. Applications for April to June payments must be filed by August 31, 1945 at the County AAA Office.

Mrs Amanda Hill 71 Beloved Belfast Resident Dies

Mrs Amanda S Hill 71 wife of Milton S Hill died last Thursday at her Route 131 home after a two week heart ailment. Funeral services were held Monday at Craver Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. A life long Belfast area resident she was a daughter of the late Byron Shields and Mrs Shields pioneer Clermont settlers.

County Boosts War Bond Quota In Ohio Drive

The War Bond Drive in Clermont County receives a boost with $100,000 allocated to the county committee from state purchases. Ohio Treasurer Don H. Ebright says $55,000,000 in United States Certificates of Indebtedness were bought from Treasury surplus funds, with Brown, Warren, and Clinton counties credited specific amounts. The state also reports $192,509,600 in War Bonds held in other trust funds.

Farm Security Assured in AAA Crop Insurance

The new Federal crop insurance program, praised by Clermont County AAA Chair Edward C. Saxton, offers 50 or 75 percent coverage of average yields to wheat growers. It protects against weather risks, applies to landowners tenants and sharecroppers, and requires pre-seeding applications by September 15, 1945.

Mr P F Jamieson announced that starting Friday night at 8 15 PM the Summer Band Concerts would be conducted from the Court House Square. Formerly they were on Saturday nights and now will be on Friday nights for several weeks to test reception.

Shoes become critical under wartime rationing warns OPA

The Cler mont County War Price and Rationing Board reports shoe inventories are severely depleted after two years of over buying. In 1943 civilians bought 53 million more pairs than produced and 50 million more in 1944, leaving inventories down by over 100 million pairs. Repairing shoes is urged before shortages become irreversible. The notice also covers tires easing, furlough gasoline increases, farm slaughter permits, and a call for volunteers to handle peak workload.
