John Richard Kimmerly aged 17 of Batavia Ohio is starting basic indoctrination at the U S Navy Training Center Great Lakes Illinois. He will undergo seamanship drill and general naval procedure instruction and aptitude tests to decide assignment to a service school shore station or sea duty. After recruit training he will receive a period of leave.

Funeral Held for 11 Year Old Drowning Victim Lester Henderson
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday for Lester Henderson an 11 year old Batavia student and son of Harvey Henderson manager of Roudebush summer camps near Batavia. He drowned last Saturday in East Fork while swimming with other boys and sank in a hole. Batavia Fire Department attempts to revive him with pulmotor failed. He was in the fifth grade at Batavia School.
