Milford postman Bob Laudeman honored at retirement sendoff

About 200 friends gathered June 19 in Milford to honor Robert J. Laudeman after 38 years as a Milford and Downtown Milford postman. The event at Milford Community Hall featured a mailbox centerpiece, decorations, and tributes from post office officials, civic groups, and Laudeman’s 1928 high school class.

Simmons to Speak at Clermont Northeastern GOP Club

Russell Simmons, candidate for clerk of courts, will speak at the Clermont Northeastern Republican Club meeting tonight at J. D. Werner's home. Club president Virgil Minnick says the program starts at 7 p.m. with dinner at 8:15. Simmons, a Navy veteran and former Clermont County highway official, is a past GOP leader and once ran for the court clerk post. He and his wife Barbara and six daughters reside in New Richmond.

Real Estate Tax Bills Mailed for 1967 Due July 20

Byron Ross Clermont County Treasurer says the second half 1967 real estate tax statements were mailed and the final payment date without penalty is July 20. Some statements were sent to savings and loan companies at their request. If a taxpayer did not receive a statement they should contact the Building and Loan or Treasurer's Office as some addresses may be incorrect. Changes by the 107th General Assembly shortened collections lead time.

Clermont National Bank Extends Hours in Service Push

Clermont National Bank announces new operating hours starting July 8 to improve customer service. Wednesdays 9 am to 3 pm. Fridays 9 am to 2 pm then 4 to 8 pm with a two hour afternoon closure to keep teller windows open. Six day schedule runs through Thursday 9 am to 3 pm, Friday 9 am to 2 pm and 4 to 8 pm, Saturday 9 am to noon. Offices listed include Milford Shopping Center Leveeland Batavia Williamsburg Owensville Mt Carmel and main Milford downtown. Batavia Boosters Calendar Project Begins in July

Batavia Band Boosters led by Mrs. Charles Remley announce the 1969 Community Calendar will be available for listings and orders in July. Boosters plan to contact every Batavia area family for listings and charge twenty five cents for each birthday or anniversary. Pets were listed last year and include a horse and several dogs. The calendar funds Batavia school band uniforms.

Taylor Named Deputy County Engineer to Replace Deel

County Engineer Carl Rush announces Douglas Taylor of Batavia as deputy engineer filling Hartman Deel’s post, who retires August 15 after 31 years. Taylor, with 10 years on the county staff and prior as road superintendent, will oversee road work on De La Palma Road property owner Hartman Deel plans to retire to his Williamsburg farm. The county adds six tractor mowers to its fleet to cut weeds along roadsides three times a season, shifting from contracted mowing.

Clermont County Sheriff Don Watson announced a revised warning listing sparklers and cap pistol caps as contraband for Fourth of July celebrations. Only cap guns under the legal 125 gram powder limit remain permitted.

Day Awarded Purple Heart and Army Commendation

Sp/4 Charles F. Day of Milford received the Purple Heart for wounds in Vietnam near Saigon and an Army Commendation for bravery. He is recovering in a Tokyo hospital after service with Company D, 65th Engineers Battalion. He trained at Fort Knox and Fort Leonard Wood and spent a year in Germany before Vietnam ending with a stint in Princeton High School. His brother Forest Day serves with the Marine Corps in San Diego.

New Lights To Brighten Festival At Mt Carmel

Mt Carmel's unincorporated area gains street lighting under a Mt Carmel Business and Professional Men's Association drive. Lanterns lit the Fourth of July celebration last year, and this year 31 of 35 lights will be installed with CG&E providing service under a 10 year contract.

Arraignments Set For 20 Defendants

Grand jury indictments handed to 20 defendants after hearings led by County Prosecutor Robert A. Jones. Indictments list burglary, robbery, and other charges across Covington, Cincinnati, and Clermont County, with several cases involving burglar tools and break-ins. Notable names include Rogg, Napier, Duffey, Crowder, and Money among others. Local arrests and charges span arson, larceny, breaking and entering, nonsupport, and morals offenses. A separate note mentions a Batavia High School band Courthouse Corner Concert scheduled for Friday at 7:30 with bake sale and white elephant sale by Band Boosters.
