West Clermont Summer School enrolls 494 doubling last year
The West Clermont district reports 494 students in this summer program, more than doubling 196 enrollments last year. The largest group is remedial reading with 70 students and enrichment courses draw many, especially typing. Students travel from Amelia Mt. Carmel and nearby towns while carpools organize during the first day.

Milford pilot dies in Gulfport jet crash during takeoff
Lt. Robert E. Dieckbrader 28 of 7 County Line Rd. Milford died when the F-64F jet he piloted crashed in a rainstorm at Gulfport National Guard Base. He served with the 162d Tactical Fighting Squadron in Ohio and is survived by his wife Shirley Shultz Dieckbrader and two sons, Stephen and Randall, along with his parents and sister. He was a graduate of Mariemont High School and Ohio State University.

Four Clermont County youths from Bethel and New Richmond were named to the All-Ohio Boys Band at the Ohio State Fair August 24 to September 3. Charles Hurbert bass Barry Brison Adamson and Steve Gregoire will join about 310 band members practicing in Columbus August 19 under Dr Louis Pete of Ashland. The group will give two free concerts daily at the fair and also appear in nightly grandstand shows. Selection was based on ability judged by state music teachers.
