Youth confesses to Mt Holly store robbery in Batavia

Sheriff Garland Auxier arrested 18 year old Robert Keenan of Cincinnati after a Saturday night hold up at Fagin's store in Mt Holly. Keenan allegedly robbed clerk Miss Beulah McMillan at gunpoint, fled on foot, and hid near the old Bantam fair grounds before surrendering. Loot recovered, pistol discarded. Keenan jailed in Batavia.

CCC Enrollment Set for Monday in County

The Civilian Conservation Corps will hold enrollment in the county on Monday July 1. Between 20 and 80 boys will be accepted. Ernest Ruffner enrollment officer says the program is not for military service, though CCC service could be linked to future military considerations.

Food Stamp Plan Delayed in Clermont County

NYA Projects Planned for Clermont County Youths

Thomas E. Speer NYA area supervisor says Clermont county will start NYA work after July 1 employing about 80 to 150 youths. Projects likely in Batavia and Owensville feature major construction with work in carpentry brick masonry and plumbing. Ages 18 to 25 unemployed youth from low income families eligible. Interviews set June 28 at 9 30 AM in Batavia Court House Probate Judge office conducted by Miss Frances Whitney.

The Agricultural Adjustment Administration announced total payments disbursed and estimated to be disbursed under the 1939 price adjustment program amounting to 219 424 368 dollars as of April 30 1940. Farmers received 216 878 200 dollars with Ohio and Kentucky totaling 5 544 272 10 and 709 574 36 respectively. The village council in a special session discussed a Highway Department plan to resurface Rt. 125 from the town line to the corporation limit and install storm and grading for curbs and sidewalks. Officials balked at the high $21,000 price unless the crown cutting to align street and sidewalk levels could be included in the project. Amelia would pay about $1,500. Expected action hinges on modifying the plan, with a decision likely next week or two.

George Harlow of Williamsburg, 30, side swiped Miss Ann Mullen 22, of 946 Fairbanks St, injuring Harlow and four children aged 8 to 14. Harold Skene 11 sustained rib and internal injuries. Miss Helen Gano Keelor of Cincinnati advertising firm dies from burns after a gas basement explosion in Milford on Wallace Avenue. She helped found Keelor and Stites Company and served as an officer since 1924. Funeral arrangements are with Wiltsee. Clermont Farm Picnic in Owensville Fair Grounds on July 13 will feature Ed Mason WLW agricultural director with staffers Grisham and Emmert. Mason, 29, Iowa-born University of Iowa graduate, will record event activities for WLW. Checking of farms begins in Clermont County AAA program

More than 2600 Clermont County farmers in the 1940 AAA program will be checked this June by farmer farm reporters. The voluntary observers will inspect farms in their communities to verify crops planted, acreage, and conservation practices, with reports to Edward C. Saxton, chairman of the county AAA committee.

Annual Reunion of Class of 1938 at Batavia High School

The Batavia High School class of 1938 held its second annual reunion at Dorothy Keller’s Glen Rose home. Attendees included F. D.
