Charles Conn and wife of Monterey were delivering milk when their Ford left the road after a collision with a traction car. The car turned over, a rear wheel tore off, the wife broke a bone in the arm, and milk spilled over her body. They returned home with the husband unharmed.
A Dayton resident reports a Ford theft in town and a garage sale recovery after a young thief sold the car. The owner was reimbursed and the matter resolved, urging owners to watch their Ford models and to use a garage when in town.
Milford suffered its second loss of the season to Batavia last Saturday at the ball park. Rain delayed the start but the game ended with Batavia ahead 6 to 1, a clean contest enjoyed by all.
Batavia Township War Chest Committee plans a four day Fourth of July celebration to dedicate a Bronze Memorial Tablet honoring soldiers and sailors of Batavia Township who served in World War I. Captain Thomas H. Morrow of Cincinnati will deliver the main address and dedication.
Williamsburg hosts a seven day Victory Chautauqua from July 7 to 11 with a strong program for all ages. Junior Chautauqua runs mornings except Sunday, with concerts lectures and entertainment each afternoon and evening, led by Hampton Court Singers and other performers. Special events on July 6 include veteran talks, curios displays, and a united church service, with tickets sold July 1 at $2 for adults and $1.10 for children.
The state announces hunting season dates for various species including fox squirrel rabbit coon muskrat opossum skunk deer protection and pheasants ducks geese woodcock bass and turtles. It also changes licenses to a combined hunters and trappers license for $1 and imposes a $2 nonresident fishing license.
Dale Weaver son of Cliff Weaver in Branch Hill broke a small arm bone last week while urging a horse in a Cross section plow. The injury will greatly handicap his summer work. Miss Lizzie Aichholtz is visiting friends in Cincinnati this week.
Pomona Grange No 25 meeting set for Pt Isabel on Saturday June 28 includes morning degree work and reports, afternoon business hour at 1 pm, songs, readings, solos, and a question box led by S B Stowe. Reading and music by Pt Isabel Grange members with remarks by County Agent. Miami Grange 1886 held June 21 with plans for June 6 session and program on organization value and community roles.
Miss Bessie Glancy, daughter of Mr and Mrs Thos Glancy of this place, who taught in Cleveland last year, will teach in Cincinnati this coming winter at a good salary after a successful city schools tryout and immediate employment.
Next Saturday Ba tavia residents will see a ball game at Batavia ball park in the afternoon between the Ter race Park team and the home boys. Both clubs carry good records and the matchup should draw fans from miles around.
Sunday reunion of John Denham Beck and Eliza Edwards Beck descendants held at A. L. Harris residence west of Bethel. Of 76 living descendants 44 attended. Amos D. Beck family not represented. A. Beck family history traces Jeremiah Beck Sen to Wales 1740. Edwards line descends from Captain John Edwards of the Revolution. An annual meeting was set, with John H. Beck elected president. A lightning strike destroyed a barn on Frank Shade farm near Summit and its contents last week.
A public notice urges homeowners to remove foul odors from hog pods, vaults, cow lots, or cess pools. It warns that unpleasant smells drive people from yards and says the Board of Health will act with the health officer to preserve health. Use lime and disinfectants to keep places sanitary.
The Georgetown Gazette reports a Mt. Crab area theft wave where Ford parts litter creek banks. Sheriff Miller arrested Moler in Mt Crab on receiving stolen property charges after tracing machines to Moler’s garage and recruiting help from earlier suspects, with more loot recovered and ongoing investigations into other crooks and hidden bodies of stolen cars.
A March 23 1919 tribute letter to Bergin G Furlong from Camp Upton era friends precedes news of his March 19 death and a military funeral. Also reported is Wright Hannah struck by lightning during a storm while sheltering under a tree. he survived with burns and injuries while a coworker escaped unharmed.
H C Adams of Mt Crab and his nephew Martin Wiggins of Newport, with another man, were returning from the city in a Ford loaded with paint. They tried to pass an car near the colored church in East Batavia, lost control, and the car plunged seven feet over a culvert. Adams injured his back. Wiggins bruised. They were cared for at J I Kidd's home and continued their trip. It was noted the driver had attempted to operate the Ford four times. A guard rail at the spot might have prevented the accident. Dr. Tom Speidel and family of Felicity spent Sunday with his parents.
Heavy storms drenched Hamilton Warren Clinton Highland regions last week. Rivers overflowed flooding Loveland Wilmington and rural areas. Trees downed crops ruined buildings damaged stock died shelters washed away silos unroofed. Insurance claims likely large across four counties.
A daylight robbery occurred near Loveland last Saturday during a poker game by the river with $64 on the board. Three men, two colored accomplices and Dee Ross, were chased by bloodhounds after locals chased them down the railroad. One robber was shot before surrender. money found in a shoe. all three turned over to Hamilton County authorities.
Gus J. Karger reports on a woman described as a colored widow who collected multiple life insurance payments after her husbands were drafted or died in service. From Amanda Jones to Smith to Jackson, each death triggered $10,000 policies, yielding $57.50 monthly for 20 years, totaling $172.00 per month.
A congressional bill would raise veteran monthly pay from 15 to 40 dollars for Spanish American War veterans. If enacted the increase would amount to 25 dollars per month served, a timely remembrance for the boys.
The wind storm badly downs wheat and rye in the farming community yet the crop was in good condition before the gusts. Farmers harvest by cutting one way as grain leans, with hogs to pasture after threshing to avoid loss. Large county yield expected though quality lower where wheat lies. The joint worm caused little damage.

The recommended spray is Black Leaf 40 or nicotine sulfate at a teaspoonful per gallon of water with strong direct hit. If numerous spray at 1 week to 10 day intervals and wash off with a garden hose for lighter cases.
The town of Lebanon announces a bond election on July 8 to issue 120000 dollars for an electric light plant. The project aims to improve lights streets sidewalks and water, with earnings expected to pay off the debt.
Hazen Schneider Brown sues Samuel C. Brown of Deer Park alleging repeated strikes choking and biting and says they have separated at least ten times. She seeks alimony and custody of their child. Norwich Enterprise notes the paper argues against granting divorce after trials and urges reconciliation.
Thos Glancy reports oil for Batavia streets is en route and expected any time. Recent rain cleaned the streets, making the dressing a great preserver of the surface. It costs 6 cents per square yard this year and would pay to oil and keep the thoroughfare clean all summer.
One of the oldest men in Clinton County, Jonathan Mills of Sabina, recently marked his birthday at home. Sabina and Batavia area residents include several citizens aged 94 and older.
