Griffie Couple Celebrates 68th Wedding Anniversary
Mr and Mrs Charles Griffie of Batavia observed their 68th wedding anniversary last Sunday in a quiet gathering with Grace Griffis and Helen Griffis of Silverton and Kirk Hamilton a grandson nearby. The couple has spent much of their married life in Batavia and Mr Griffie has been in poor health. Rev BR Wilson will speak at Summerside on July 4 to honor local soldiers. the public is invited.

Batavian Native Wesley Simpkins Dies at 60
Wesley Simpkins former Batavian citizen died at his St Bernard home last Friday night at age 60 after long rheumatic illness. He left a widow several children and a brother. A respected lifelong laborer he will be buried Sunday with interment in Union Cemetery.

Lightning Strikes Front Yard Tree in Glancy Property
During last Thursday's storm lightning struck the large linn tree in the Glancy property's front yard on Spring Street.
