M. Smith of Jackson township drew a 160 acre quarter section in the Standing Rock and Cheyenne Indian Reservation opened for settlement May 1. He travels from Cincinnati selling willow ware and plans hardware and furniture business with claim proven up near Timber Lake. He recounts journey from Aberdeen to McIntosh and Grand River, notes rapid town growth and railroad progress.

A group from Strietmann Baking Company in Cincinnati rode a three car special train drawn by an electric mule to Highland Park last Saturday. Festive horns decorated with colorful paper were blown on the trip there and back as merriment marked the excursion.
W Guy Jones of Columbus bought the Clermont county Citizens Telephone property for 1500 under a court sale ordered by the receiver Bailey W. Gilfillen. The sale covered seven exchanges and was the fourth offering with Jones the sole bidder. Transfer will occur later with plans to finance and expand service.
The Kenton county Kentucky grand jury dismissed Rev. Watson W. Tranter of the M. E. church New Richmond after finding evidence insufficient to prove he forged his brother's name on a vote for six thousand dollars. Congregation and friends cheer acquittal.
Local concern rises over the condition of Clinton county roads. An official investigation found rural routes lacking the Postal Service standard of goodness, urging residents to support road maintenance to preserve rural mail delivery benefits.
The sixty first annual session of the Ohio State Teachers Association will be held at Cedar Point Ohio on June 28 20 and 80. All members stay at Breakers hotel and all sessions occur there. A strong program is prepared and attendance promises great benefit. Clermont county teachers may attend. Dr Thomas Electric Oil advertised for cures and remedies.
An event of high educational interest unfolds in Clermont county with Patterson and Batavia township commencements at Highland Park Saturday June 25. State School Commissioner John W. Zeller will speak and offer school law information. Dean H. C. Minnich will address graduates. Surdo's orchestra and the Batavia Military Band will provide music. Admission is free. refreshments will be served.
The Patterson graduates of Ohio township and Mt. Pisgah special district schools hold commencement at Mt. Pisgah M E church Thursday evening with Batavia Orchestra performing. Franklin township ceremony follows tomorrow evening June 28 in Felicity township hall with Witohger Brothers providing music and Mrs Lulu Bonar as teacher in charge.
Charles B Rimpler 21 of Cincinnati drowned Sunday morning while rowing a skiff on the Little Miami River at Epworth Heights. Officials recovered the body and the coroner ordered removal to Loveland for an inquest, the physician ruling accidental drowning.
Last Friday evening the Miami township Patterson commencement was held in the M. E. church at Miamiville. Prof. C. Searles taught the event and oversaw the ceremony. The Batavia orchestra furnished the music.
Francis Applegate, 12, accidentally shot in the neck and shoulder by his brother Merwin while returning from a cornfield with a shotgun to shoot crows. He died about two hours after wounding. He lived near Mt. Crab. funeral held at the Applegate home and Union Cemetery, Batavia.

Clermont County Medical Association plans a June 29 outing at Dr Philip Kennedy's residence in Laurel Ohio. Transportation from Hulington station via C and P railroad departs 10 40 a m. Each member to confirm attendance to avoid oversight and enjoy corn bread and buttermilk. Local members invited.
Members of Jesse R. Ellis Post No 740 G A R are urged to attend a meeting Saturday afternoon June 26 at 2 o'clock in the I O O F hall. Each member should answer here when the roll is called.
R M Hayden confectioner of Felicity has been appointed a clerk in the census department in Washington. He will report for duty June 28 while his brother continues the Felicity confectionery business.
The Blanchester home of Mr and Mrs John Doughman was the scene Wednesday evening June 16 for the marriage of their daughter Blanche to Albert M Callon. Rev J W Kline of Hillsboro officiated. The couple will reside in Milford after September 1.
Prof. C. A. Puckett of Lynchburg Highland County has been chosen superintendent of Owensville schools at a salary of 85 dollars per month. He previously supervised Lynchburg schools for 12 years and is deemed fully qualified for the Owensville post.
Children’s Day programs will be held at the Batavia M B church next Sunday evening at 7.00. A fine program by the young folks has been prepared and all are invited to attend.
