Burglars Foiled In Bethel Vault Break-In

Burglaries at the Grant Memorial Building in Bethel failed to yield loot after intruders forced a library window lock. Police and deputies investigated fingerprints while Ruth Parker reports the combination was disrupted. The incident occurred late Monday with no loot recovered.

Bullskin Creek Bridge Repair Bids Opened

Bids opened for Bullskin Creek Bridge repair with a firm bid of 30 810 dollars and project total of 33 972 dollars. Work slated for completion in August after the bridge near Chile washed out in a flood last year forcing residents to ford the creek. In other business, commissioners consider annexation petition from Francis Stievenard for two 70 acre tracts south of SR 125 to the village of Amelia.

Massey Water Tax Exemption Bill Passes Ohio House

Testimony at the first hearing shows exemption would save Tate-Monroe water system from annual real estate taxes, avoiding a $35,000 cost and $1 to $2 monthly increases for customers. Tax-exempt systems include Miami Goshen Stone Bick and Pierce Union Batavia, with others like Adams County Water Co., Highland County Water, Southwestern Butler Furnace verison Township Water Assn. in Hamilton County potentially affected. Tax deadline extended in Clermont County

Clermont County commissioners at the request of Treasurer Byron Ross extended the second half real estate tax deadline to July 20. The usual date is June 20, but bills have not been mailed yet. Ross says most bills will go out this week.

Clermont County Chamber meeting rescheduled to July 16

The organizational meeting for the proposed Clermont County Chamber of Commerce was reset to Wednesday July 16 at 8 p m in the CG&E auditorium Batavia Fourth and Spring streets. Chairman Robert Becht urged a county wide, night session to attract broad attendance and elect officers and committees from all sections. Speakers at the session included William Sullivan of Sullivan Printing Works and Horace Flannery a Carmel realtor and developer.

Missing Dogs Hold Key To Rabies Check

Clermont County Dog Warden Eldon Green appealed Tuesday for the return of two Beagle dogs taken from the pound Friday night. The animals are in quarantine after one bit a man and the bite victim faces rabies serum treatment if the dogs are not returned. Green urged daytime return or, if at night, that the dogs be placed in a padlocked cage.

Harsha Seeks Review Over Nike Felicity Site Closure

Rep. William H. Harsha met with the Secretary of Defense to urge a full review of the Nike firing site at Felicity. He received assurances that if the site closes, all 92 civilian technicians will be rehired or relocated with moving expenses paid, and that personnel would be placed in comparable jobs if possible.
