Batavia Board Hires Teachers

Batavia Board of Education at its June 9 meeting set bid specs for milk insurance oil and a new bus with all bids due by July 13. The board accepted the resignation of Mrs Marguerite Winkle and hired teachers Nancy Gibbs Diana Head Elizabeth Mulliken and Edward Redington with assignments in first fourth German English and English speech plus creative writing.

Burg Democrats Install New Officers June 23

Edward B. Osborne announces the newly organized Demo Club of Williamsburg will meet June 23 at 8 p.m. at the high school. County Court Judge Charles W. Jackson will swear in officers elected last month: Alfred Greber president Henry Heil vice president Mrs. Etta Sprague treasurer and Mrs. Ruth Heckathorne recording secretary. Osborne urges attendance and active support of area Democrats.

Flag Dedication Set Saturday in Clermont County

The official Clermont County flag dedication is planned for Saturday June 19 at the court house square. Rob ert K lade chairs the program with the US Army Band from Fort Knox Ky and Lyle Faulkner s Fife and Drums providing music. The Rev John Coghlan will give the invocation and Mayor Richard C Jamieson will welcome. Judge Orville Halbisch will speak on Clermont s Heritage. Harry Reed Appel of Clermont County Historical Society will introduce guests and Dennis C Laithle who designed the flag. The Commissioners Ralph Houser Arthur Blake and Stanley Cann will accept the flag and the program ends after remarks Our Flag and the Future by Harry R Moore followed by the benediction and Dedi Prayer by Rev Lucien.

Jack White opens Jack's Super Valu in Batavia

Jack White opens Jack's Super Valu a new Batavia supermarket at 66 South Riverside between Main and Spring Streets. It features modern display and service fixtures and a large blacktopped parking area. White, son of Cris Afton, has years of experience in his father's business and now runs the new store. Ralph Murphy & Sons of Batavia built the building.

Durbin Announces Re Election Bid In Union Township

Union Township trustee Elmo Durbin, vice chair of the board, says he will seek re election and has filed petitions with Clermont County Board of Elections. He argues leadership under fire defeats and opposes creeping city incorporation plans while urging spiritual leadership as essential to community progress. A Goshen School District tax budget hearing is set for Friday June 25 at 8 p.m. in the board office.

Bids Sought For County Road Work

Clermont County Commissioners advertise for bids on a road paving project estimated at 250357 dollars. Bids due July 2 for 81.05 miles of county roads with 14.67 miles to receive blacktop and 66.38 miles to get surface treatment.

Tax Collections Show Slight Gain in Clermont

Clermont real estate taxes for the first half total $3,675,600, up from $3,421,361 last year. Current taxes $3,246,474. assessments $65,010. full-year payments $62,363. delinquencies $301,752, with about $700,000 expected to shrink in the second half. Prosecuting Attorney Robert A. Jones will pursue court action on delinquent cases after verifying payments.

Clermont Social Lodge No. 29 F and A M held a sesqui centennial celebration on Saturday June 12 with dignitaries from other lodges. Grand Master Edgar Ott led the reconsecration service as a parade to the high school proceeded at 3 pm.

State To Begin Road Projects In Ohio

Russell Simmons reports the Ohio Department of Highways is mowing weeds patching roads and repairing guard rails damaged in accidents. A new headquarters is near Rt 132 four miles south of Batavia and 600000 dollars is allotted to widen and install culverts and bridges on several routes.

Four Injured In Traffic Mishaps Across County

Two men and two boys were injured in separate traffic crashes this week. Harold Walters 23 and Anthony Singler 69 were hurt in a four car collision on Rt 125 east of Amelia with Walters held for observation and Singler treated and released. In Goshen eight year old Charles Greine was struck on Rt 28 and taken to Loveland Life Squad while 11 year old Frederick Sebastian was treated for a fractured collarbone after being struck on Rt 131 east of Milford and Charles Reese 38 cited for reckless operation.

Batavia Band Day Proclaimed for June 25

Mayor R. C. Jamieson proclaims June 25, 1965 as Batavia Band Day. The Batavia senior band will perform a street concert led by Bruce Behlow. A bake sale and auction on the courthouse square, plus refreshments, are planned by the Batavia Band Boosters.
