Anti Poverty Subcommittees Proposed to Reach Roots

Clermont County Anti Poverty Director Jack Blumenthal calls for twelve sub committees to tackle poverty in the area including Research welfare education and training Neighborhood Youth Corps housing for indigent and recreation He says success hinges on active participation by the Community Action Committee and local residents The plan also outlines Salvation Army progress work experience funds and a county wide youth employment effort with 50 jobs and $26 000 in wages plus a future Neighborhood Youth Corps project for 600 students.

With a Aug 4 deadline, 18 of 51 petitioners for November office have filed with Clermont County and local boards. Incumbent Williamsburg Township trustee John C. Fischback filed first. Others file for trustee include Williams, Johnston, Allen, Shinkle, Colonel, Wulf, Hines, Wilson, Koester, Morris. Owensville mayor hopeful Louis G. Oskamp, incumbent Robert McCowan. Williamsburg's John S. Varney filed for village council. no candidates yet for boards of public affairs.

Box Company Elects Officers

Cincinnati Box & Partition Company held its annual stockholders meeting in Williamsburg on June 1 and elected directors Arthur L. Lauber John Watson Kermit Smith Charles Danbury and Charles J. Brandt as chairman. The board then elected officers C. J. Brandt president and treasurer A. Lauber vice president J. Watson secretary A. Walter assistant secretary and R. Brandt assistant treasurer.

Jail population dips as crime down says Sheriff

Sheriff Watson notes a drop in jail population to nine with usual counts 20 to 25 and sometimes 50. He credits no specific cause, cites general crime decline and lingering petty violations, and hopes the trend continues.

Police Chief Resigns in Owensville for Clermont County Deputy Post

Robert Jones, Owensville police chief for the past year, resigned effective May 1 to take a deputy sheriff position in Clermont County. Sheriff Donald Watson announced the move on Thursday.

Planner speaks to Clermont County real estate board

J Kermit Smith, chairman of the Clermont County Planning Commission, spoke at the May meeting of the Associate Division of the Clermont County Real Estate Board. Smith, a Williams burg resident, discussed the commission history purpose and functions and outlined future plans. The group aims to select an Associate of the Year with James W. Florea as committee chairman.

Health budget trimmed and permits issued in Williamsburg

Dr. Albert W. Van Sickle, Mont County health commissioner, reports the health board’s budget cut from 86 615 to 84 500 may affect services. Salaries reduced to 62 505 from 63 505, and operating expenses down to 19 980 from 22 850. Contingencies cut to 20 15 from 25 15, prompting protest from George Minnick about arbitrary reductions. The board approves sewer connections without a registration fee but requires proper permits. In Williamsburg, beer and wine permit applications for Edward Minnie are processed by the Ohio Department of Liquor Control.

Principal Named At Northeastern

Simmie C. Alley Jr named principal of Clermont Northeastern High School succeeding Guy Mallory. Alley starts June 1 and serves as administrative assistant to executive head Lewis Miller. He will direct summer school and his wife Barbara and their two children live in the area.

Jed Nau of Batavia, son of Mr and Mrs Charles A Nau, Old Boston Rd, Batavia, earned the Bobby Pogue Prize at Cincinnati Country Day School’s Middle School Award Night for having the highest scholastic average among seventh graders. New Wheat Farm Allotment Cut Off Date Set
