Eagles Have A Busy Week End

Clermont Aerie Eagles hosted a Friday Fish Fry with Virginia Kain and Frieda Patchell backed by Howard Lewis and others. Sunday saw a 15 member initiation, seven new members, with Virginia Brothers and Jackie Smith performing Irish ballads. Linda Locabucci accompanied.

Clermont Rangers Active Thieve Catchers

The Clermont Rangers Mt. Carmel Unit assisted in apprehending two alleged thieves and turning them over to county authorities. At the quarterly meeting President R H Beiderman swore in three new members Arthur Tennyson O Elliott and Pete Weiner bringing active membership to sixty five. Earl Kincaid was named stag outing chairman for August second Monday. Lt Don Calhoun stationed at Wright Field Dayton Ohio was granted honorary membership.

Marathon Grange hosts Granger guests Friday program

Granger News reports Clermont Grange will be the guests of Marathon Grange Friday evening and perform the program. The lecture program will feature the yearly debate with Marathon taking the affirmative. Eleven Grangers are welcome.

Wet Grounds Halt Ball Games In County League

All county league baseball games were canceled last Sunday because of wet grounds. Next Sunday’s schedule lists Georgetown at Goshen, East End at Neville, New Richmond Giants at Williamsburg, Mt. Crab at Edenton, Bethel has a bye, and Felicity has dropped from the league.

Mt. Carmel Glen Este Welfare Association will hold a meeting on Wednesday June 24 at 8 p.m. at Defense Hall Mt. Carmel to decide on fire equipment for their territory and remodeling the present fire truck. All members urged to attend.

Favret Wins $6250 Judgment in Cincinnati Court

Miss Thelma Favret of Owensville won a $6250 verdict against Mrs. Margaret A. Evans of Norwood for injuries from a June 29, 1941 traffic crash at Montgomery Road and Plainfield Pike. A Batavia and Ben digs, Jr. attorney team represented Favret in Judge Charles gs. Bell's Common Pleas Court. the jury verdict was returned last Thursday.

Ohio Plans Civilian Defense Week and Parades

The Ohio State Council of Defense urged Batavia and all communities to join Civilian Defense Week July 4 to 11 under the theme Ohio Shows Her Colors. A statewide pageant, a new song by James L. Hubbell, and a Red White and Blue Print kit for Victory Parades were announced. A Steubenville blackout trial will launch a series of tests, with prior events at Gallipolis and Piqua. Ohio State 65th commencement honors 1450 graduates

Mary Lou Gunderley of Batavia among the 1450 graduates in Ohio State University's 65th annual commencement on June 15. Nearly 8000 students to return June 23 for the summer accelerated program. Gunderley earned a Bachelor of Science in Education.

Scrap Rubber Drive Underway in Clermont County

President Roosevelt urged households to salvage all usable scrap rubber during a two week drive starting June 15. The oil industry will provide personnel and collection points with stations paying 10 cents a pound, no profit to operators. Non usable rubber accepted. metal wood and leather removed.

Government to aid military families by new pay allotment rules. The bill lets draft boards consider family ties when calling men, offering monthly support to dependents. Wife $50, first child $12, each additional child $10, with federal supplements. Local boards must exhaust single men before calling husbands and fathers.

Flora Burnett Died Here Son

Miss Flora Burnett died at her father’s home in Batavia on Sunday afternoon after a short illness. She was the daughter of Andrew H. Burnett and taught at Williamsburg school last year after long service at New Richmond school. Her Clermont county friends extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
