Thompson Seeks Higher State School Aid in Hearing

Clermont County superintendent Roy Thompson urged boosting rehabilitation funds from 1 000 000 to 2 000 000 and transport to 1 500 000 in capital improvements. He asked the Senate finance committee to raise the total to 3 000 000, citing Clermont’s high class sizes and low per pupil spending.

Clermont County Forms Hospital Festival Board

A Clermont County chapter of the Festival Board of Our Lady of Mercy Hospital formed to coordinate county efforts for the hospital festival. Frank Roberts of Milford named chairman with Luchen Barat co chair and Raymond Nichle secretary. meeting at Mariemont hospital. Events include a July 23 24 festival at St Margaret of Cortona Church plus Plymouth car displays in Amelia and New Richmond in June.

Ford Agency Opens In New Bethel Location

Bob Cahall Motors Bethel Ford dealer plans a grand opening Saturday June 18 at the new site where Routes 232 and 125 meet Bethel. Manager Harry Lee Hannah announced a 70 by 101 feet showroom on five acres at the town west edge.

Wilma Lee Campbell daughter of Mr and Mrs Everett H Campbell Route 6 Batavia wins a $500 Muskingum College scholarship. The award will be split equally over four years. Miss Campbell is a 1955 Batavia High School graduate.

Judge Halbisch to Help Select Kiddie Contest Winner

Clermont County Probate Judge Orville Halbisch and Mt. Lookout shop owner Lois Rohde will judge the Kiddie Contest at St. Veronica Church Mt. Carmel on June 26. Five finalists per sex compete for a $5 prize, with a grand prize of $25 for the winner. Entries close at 3 30 p.m. judging at 4 p.m. The festival also features rides booths and meal auctions from local restaurants. Prize list includes an electric range wrist watch and more. The church is on Mt. Carmel Tabasco Road near State Route 74.

Dixie Song Wins Governors Cup at Louisville Fairgrounds

Homer Guinn of Route 1 Williamsburg drove Dixie Song to win the Governors Cup pacing race at the Fairgrounds Speedway Louisville Kentucky on Friday June 3. He received a large trophy from Lieut Governor Emerson Beauchamp and over 1000 dollars prize. Guinn is a known figure in tri state racing circles and has lived in Williamsburg for 25 years.

Former Batavian Ordained in EUB Ministry

Carl W. Hahn Jr., formerly of Batavia, is ordained in the Evangelical United Brethren Church after seven years of advanced study. He earned a BA from Otterbein College in 1952 and a BD from United Seminary in 1955, and now serves as full time pastor at Otterbein Savona Churches.

The Mt. Carmel Unit Clermont Rangers will hold its annual picnic on Monday June 20 at Bells Lakes Mt Carmel. Amelia Day at Coney Island Draws Wide Local Involvement

Amelia Day at Coney Island on June 29 draws the Amelia Business Association’s planning efforts with posters banners and prize drawings. Tickets for park admission cost five cents with ride tickets via merchants and a day of athletic contests and events planned for residents and visitors. A Clermont County meeting rejected a road construction resolution, citing legal limits on township control.

Spanish American War Vets Convene in Clermont County

Clermont County's Henry C. Corbin Camp 115 and its Auxiliary 79 met at the D X Ranch Mt. Holly for their annual convention. Seventeen camp members and 27 auxiliary members attended with Charles Wright Sr Amelia as commander and Arthur E. McKay as quartermaster. Visitors included Earl Ferris and Ada Knecht among others. Ferris seeks department commander at the Dayton convention June 28 29 with Wright McKay Callahan named delegates and Krantz as alternate.
