Bert Reed intervened as peacekeeper, Houser swung toward Meyers but no one was hurt. A $1000 budget was proposed to build the stretchered route amid talk of misused funds and contracting disputes.

Narrow Escape From Destructive Georgetown Fire
GEORGETOWN FIRE recounts a near disaster on June 5 when a boiler room fire at the electric light plant threatened the power plant and city auditorium. Firefighters regained control after 80 minutes, damaging the boiler room roof windows and scenery while the machinery remained intact. Loss was insured and adjusted. Fire originated in a coal house next to the building, with ashes dumped against it. authorities may ban wooden coal houses to avoid future fires.

Drownings at Woodland Park Lake Claim Local Victim
A West Night school picnic at Woodland Park in Cincinnati ended in tragedy when Albert Hein, unknown to others, plunged into 15 feet of water for a first and last time and drowned. His clothing surfaced later and the bathing suit was missing, prompting a search and the sad discovery. His body was taken to Cincinnati for burial. No witness saw the drowning. Little is known of him.

The June issue of the State Civil Service Commission bulletin lists examinations for an inspector with the State Highway Department and for an examiner in the Auditor of State’s office. Milk Wagon Struck by Freight Near Williamsburg
George W. Gregg a large Mont dairy man on Deerfield Road had his milk wagon with 110 gallons struck by a westbound freight Saturday morning at the crossing to Williamsburg. The wagon wrecked and the horse killed. Allen Waters driving the horse escaped injury by jumping clear. The freight train sped up to clear the grade prompting calls for better warning signs at crossings.

The Junior League of the M. E. church, ages five to twelve, presented a flag. County Commissioners Act on Emergency Bridge Bonds and Road Work
At a recent quarterly meeting the county board authorized issuing 20000 emergency bridge bonds at 5 percent to rebuild wrecked bridges from floods. They budgeted 25 for slag to repair the road between the bridge and the N and W railway. A local crew will lay the pavement. Tax payments were extended to July 20 with no penalties until then. The Hanlon Contract Company will rent a county road roller for five dollars daily. Milford village receives 1500 for improvements, now underway.

Batavian Man Dies in Cincinnati Tuberculosis Hospital
Richard Worstell, son of Mr and Mrs William Worstell formerly of this place, died last Friday at a Cincinnati tuberculosis hospital and was buried here Monday. He was a former employee of this office. He is survived by a widow two children and a mother.

County Surveyor Holland Receives New Road Salary Plan
The Case road law signed June 4 by Governor Willis awards the county surveyor elect a two year term with new pay. He will receive 1 dollar per mile for improved and unimproved roads, plus 40 dollars per thousand population for the first 15000 and 30 dollars for each additional 1000. Clermont’s surveyor salary may rise to about 2300 dollars yearly, with expenses and assistants paid by the county. The surveyor will examine every mile of road, estimate repair costs, and report to road supervisors with repair instructions. He is to request budget support for the salary increase.
