Seven Hurt As Car Hits Utility Pole

AMELIA Seven young men from Amelia and nearby areas were injured early Sunday when their speeding car left Mt. Carmel Tabasco Road, struck a mail box, culvert and a utility pole, skidded 280 feet, and overturned. The driver Richard Naegele, 25, was amputated a right leg. All were taken to Cincinnati hospitals.

County commissioners plan to form a disposal district and seek talks with village and township officials. After months of study on cost financing operation and maintenance they favor incineration as the best solution and set July 1 as a contact deadline.

Thompson Rebuffs Call to Resign as Superintendent

Clermont County School Superintendent Roy Thompson refused a county board request to resign at Monday's meeting. Three board members cited lack of leadership and administrative ability, while member J A Ashton opposed the measure and urged a salary raise which died for lack of a second. The board released a detailed statement listing perceived failings and noting Thompson's contract runs through 1961 62. Clermont commissioners also accepted two township road dedications, Vic Joy Drive and Elm Drive.

Ison to Appeal Bribery Conviction in Court of Appeals

Arnold Morelli of Paxton and Season, attorney for Don Ison, filed a notice with Clermont County clerk Ralph Parker that Ison will appeal his three counts of bribery and sentence. A brief for reversal will be filed later. Ison, a former Clermont County commissioner, was sentenced to the penitentiary last December 13. He remains free on bond pending appeal.

County Officials Blamed as Clermont Faces Financial Strain

Auditor J F Paschal told Clermont County commissioners the county has been broke for seven years due to lagging tax receipts and high spending. He urged a two mill operating levy while noting health library and planning department requests would worsen finances. Commissioners planned to compel office holders to show how funds are used to avoid a levy.

Youth Held In Theft Of Auto In Batavia

A 16 year old boy from Cler mont County juvenile detention faces theft charges after a 1961 model car owned by Al Wolfe of Graser Wolfe Chevrolet Co. Batavia was driven from Wolfe's office around 10 30 p m Sunday night and recovered at Market and Wood Streets minutes later. The youth was held by state highway patrol.
