Ohio State expert James Beattie reports late spring nitrogen can be practical for peach and possibly apple trees. In trials at Clermont County Owensville, late applications helped nitrogen deficient trees recover but overuse risks poor fruit color and delayed fall growth. Do not apply apples after June 20 or peaches after July 1. use nitrate forms and limit to half the normal spring nitrogen rate.
