Barges Cut Adrift Trigger Arrest Warrant Near Moscow
A warrant for the arrest of an unnamed man was issued after six barges loaded with flammable liquids broke loose from a mooring upstream from Moscow. The charge is malicious destruction of property. The towboat Bobby Joe, captained by William Lang, steered the barges to the Ohio side for repairs after engine trouble. Lawrence Backus, the boat's pilot, said the suspect fired a rifle toward the barges. the man left and returned shortly after. Coast Guard and sheriff officials noted landowner tensions over riverbank erosion and barge wake.

Deadline Set For Tap In In Amelia Batavia Area
A deadline of August 15 is set for a PUB tap in or contract in the Amelia Batavia segment without the $400 fee. County utility director Fred Montgomery says commissioners authorize using the August date to speed revenue for the county’s share of system construction. Signers by August 15 may join by February 1 without the $400 charge but will owe the $7 minimum monthly fee until they become actual users.
