Camporee Opens Friday in Clermont County Park

The Clermont district Boy Scout Camporee runs from 4 p.m. Friday, June 15 to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 17 at Burke Park. Explorers, scouts, advisors, and leaders will practice crafts and skills, cook, sleep in tents, and perform for new district executive Everett K Bacon who begins his post in Clermont County. Bacon, from Hannibal Missouri, arrives to oversee 431 leaders, 51 units, and 1,331 scouts.

Two Countians Lead Miami University Board Of Trustees

Hugh C. Nichols of Batavia was elected chairman for a three year term and Fred Climer of New Richmond was chosen treasurer. Trustees approved a 6 740 000 budget for the coming year, up 480 000, citing enrollment growth and higher tuition fees as reasons. President Millett noted raises for faculty salaries and the impact of 1955 Assembly actions.

Kiwanis Rides On Steamer Avalon In New Richmond

The Kiwanis Club sponsors an Avalon Steamer excursion in New Richmond with a 9 p.m. departure and 11 30 p.m. return on July 9. An August Ripley Ohio ride by Highland Brown Counties 4 H Clubs follows. The Avalon carries 1370 passengers with music by Rhythm Masters and has a distinctive three tone whistle.

Water system reports May bills and readings for Pierce Union Batavia

Harlan Mace, manager of the Pierce Union Batavia water system, told Clermont County commissioners that May bills totaled 14952.52 and collections reached 14558.91. Daily usage averaged 274800 gallons with 1927 meters read, 7968000 gallons pumped, and 9.17 pounds of chlorine per million gallons. The panel refused three contract cancellations, allowed one, and cited the risk to financial solvency if customers break the $7 minimum monthly rate. One cancellation was approved due to a distant service line issue at Mildred Mitchell.

Resident Escapes Prowl Gunfire At Trailer Home

James Christman living near Manila Road woke to noises at 2 a.m. and fired at a prowler who returned fire. He had previously found charred newspaper under the trailer suggesting an arson attempt. Father Is Held For Beating Child

Clyde Ray Fields, 21, held in Clermont County jail on $5000 bond for beating his 15 month old stepson Thomas Lee Kearns on June 6. The child treated for bruises on his back. The mother Mrs June Fields 19 filed charges. Fields pleaded guilty. Sentencing by Juvenile Judge Orville Halbisich to occur this week.
