Time Up Friday June 15 at 6 30 P M for filing candidate declarations for all offices. Candidates should file petitions on time with more signatures than required and review for accuracy before submitting. Remember the date and time.
County Agent Baugh says Friday’s Field Day at Clermont County Experiment Farm will attract one of the largest crowds. Supt. Elliott organized a broad program with representation from all townships and farm groups including the Grange Farm Bureau 4-H clubs and garden clubs. Demonstrations cover forage crops hay making poultry fruit growing flowers shrubs and landscape work. Picnics and prepared feed by Owensville M E Church Ladies Aid add to the day. A poultry caparizing demonstration by OSU expert R E Cray is featured.
Washington has authorized a raise in the second wheat adjustment payment from eight to nine cents per bushel after deducting local administration costs. The initial wheat adjustment payment to those signing wheat contracts stood at twenty cents per bushel.
Felicity resident Byron Ross was elected President of the Clermont County Corn Hog Production Control Association at a meeting of district chairmen in Batavia. Walter Smith of Nicholsville became Vice President, Carney Roush of Williamsburg Secretary, and E L Saxton of Goshen Treasurer. The board is reviewing contracts and making necessary adjustments.
East Hill Farm Club met June 7 at Mrs. Stella Moore’s home with 18 members and 6 guests. Leaders and speakers included Miss Ethel Davidson and Mrs. Alma Patterson, with papers by several members and a reading by Mrs. Anca Maham. Maham won the contest and the group adjourned to meet July 19 after refreshments.

Bethel resident David Scott, a Bethel High School 1980 graduate and son of J. C. Scott, was honored as high man in his class at Cincinnati College of Pharmacy. He commuted 60 miles daily and maintained an excellent attendance record with only one tardy.
Miss Marie Kuhn daughter of Victor and Mrs Kuhn and William H Malott son of Homer Malott were married last Wednesday at Summerside M E church by Rev O W Robbins. They will live with his parents at Olive Branch. Best man Ed Koenig and bridesmaid attended. The couple honeymooned at Indian Lake. Malott works in the family Batavia grocery business.
Clermont county farmers near completion of tobacco setting with 670 acres planted by last week and the rest set after heavy rainfall. Total signed acreage reaches 1850. Last season saw scarce plants and poor quality.
Clarence J. Brown Republican candidate for Governor will open his campaign with a rally sponsored by the Young Republican Club of Clermont County at Bethel High School gym Saturday at 8 p m. The event marks a party drive with attendees including Alfred G. Karger Chester Fitch M B Knechtly and Albert Daniels among others and features music from a Bethel band and club quartet.
Government sets new rules allowing planting of emergency forage crops on non contracted acres and modifying restrictions on retired acres to permit forage crops except corn. Wheat corn tobacco adjustments retain limits, with dates for corn forage planting to be announced. County Agent Baugh notes full rental payments and resources to support farmers amid efforts to shift land from grain to pasture.
The Family Recovery Program of federal state and county relief moved forward this week securing two land tracts for family gardens. At Milford 9 acres from Mrs John Gatch and at Batavia land from James Walker will be divided into half acre plots with seed and fertilizer provided. Potatoes corn tomatoes and beans will be planted. A tract at New Richmond is planned for the same purpose.
Mrs. R G Harmount conducted a pleasant recital by her Batavia music class at the M E Church last Tuesday afternoon. Guests included friends of the pupils. The class featured piano with Leora Ludwick Martha Budd Mary Budd Jeanette Bauer Betty Jane Bauer Helen Marie Foos Opal Lee Franks Helen Ruth Ellis Eleanor Graer Ruth Lewis Anna Lou Moore Helen Zurmebly Mildred Taylor Alta Winemiller Robert Taylor Floyd Stevens. Also listed were pipe organ Glenn Budd guitar Ezra Bauman Chas Winemiller and mandolin Ralph Bauman.
Rev. and Mrs. R. L. Budd announce the engagement of their daughter Glenellyn to Hunter M. Cole of Norwood. The marriage is planned for Saturday June 23 at the parsonage.
Lightning hit the barn of Albert Mardis in Olive Branch on Saturday at 4 am during heavy rain. The shock rattled his house and nearly threw him from bed. The barn and contents were destroyed while outbuildings and fences were saved with difficulty. The Smith Brothers reported a cow struck by lightning last week.
On Saturday June 9 Miss Louisa Perin hosted a luncheon at the Cincinnati Woman's Club Oak Street Walnut Hills. Distinguished Eastern Star members including Grand Chapter of Ohio officers and Grand Representatives attended in honor of Mrs. Lydia B Crawford Grand Ma tron. The table served eighteen with guests from Cincinnati Batavia Amelia and Moscow.
Trouble grows among Clermont County milk producers as a meeting is set for Thursday in Batavia courthouse to decide on action to push up milk prices. Leaders hint at a strike to compel higher prices, with prior meetings in the Cincinnati area showing majority support but no concrete plan.
The Clermont Geneva Camp starts June 20 and runs to July 1 at Valley View west of Batavia. A Clermont County institution aims to develop leaders with the theme Learning to Live the Christian Life. Registration is urged, with a 12 day program costing $12, through Grayce Lytle, Batavia.
George Earl Huling son of Mr and Mrs Earl Huling of Amelia was chosen with the 300 to play with the Ohio State Fair Band in Columbus in August. Amelia is proud of her accomplished sons.
Last Sunday around 1 p m a tire blew on Ira B. Cogue party’s car near Amelia. The young son suffered a deep head wound likely skull fracture. Mrs. Ira Cogue had a dislocated collarbone and a deep cut. a 4 month old baby girl was seriously hurt. Doctors treated injuries and ambulances transported them to Good Samaritan hospital.
The First Baptist church of Bata via held a baptismal Sunday on June 3 in East Fork above Batavia. Sixteen converts were baptized as Reys Park and Hillsboro participants assisted. Robert A Hitch son of Major E T Hitch and nephew of Mrs Maude Nichols Batavia earned a law degree at George Washington University at its 118th commencement on June 6. He served on the Student Council as vice president and on the Student Life Committee and played varsity basketball. Batavia Masonic lodge members will attend U B church services June 24 in a body at Rev Ludwicks invitation.
Mt. Carmel's Modern Cooks met at Mt. Carmel school on June 6. The roll call named a dog. Leader Mrs. Kincaid guided members in filling books and assigning tasks for the coming week. Next meeting scheduled for June 20.
Newtonsville P T A hosts an Ice Cream Supper on June 16 to raise funds for a worthy cause. Volunteers and supporters are invited to attend and contribute.
The Nicholsville Sewing Club met with Mrs Rose Jackson on May 81. Regular business and roll call were completed and members shared favorite colors. An hour for games followed adjournment. Next meeting set for Thursday June 14. Margaret Hall reporter.

The annual Amelia Chapter 338 C E S inspection on a June Saturday drew Grand Matron Lydia B. Crawford to a school auditorium lavishly prepared by Ruth Wiggin. About forty members from the twentieth district attended alongside numerous Grand Representatives and district deputies. eighty-nine guests from other chapters joined in the celebratory event. The gathering honored Myrtle Leeds as the first Matron and John Huntington as Patron. Louisa Perin received a district-wide compliment for serving as Grand Adah this year.
Clermont county ministers will hold the final session of the year at the United Brethren church Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. E L Smith of Cumminaville has been invited as guest speaker. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.
Rev Ludwick will deliver the Memorial address for the I C O FP and Jr U A M at Hillsboro Sunday at 2 p m. He will also fill an engagement at Mt Airy U B church at 8 p m in a Special Community Service for Fathers Day.
The Clermont County Federation of Woman's Clubs held a well attended gathering in Williams burg last week with the program carried out as printed. Next year’s meeting will be at Bethel.
The Batavia Garden Club gathers at Miss Emma Wilke’s home on Monday evening June 18 for a program on lilies and their culture with music by Mrs. Jenike and speaker John Pommert Amelia. The Busy Bee Sewing Club met June 5 and will reconvene June 18. Annabel Hoffman reports from Williamsburg.
