Judge Ringland’s unorthodox weddings mix wind, balloons, and rice
Batavia County Court Judge Robert Ringland, known for officiating weddings in unusual settings, recounts juggling ceremonies in high winds and even hot air balloons. Rice and confetti stain his office after numerous weddings, many for service members or divorced couples seeking new starts. The judge performs without a fee and views it as a community service. Also noted is Marine Lance Cpl. Oscar B. Carnahan Jr., returning from Okinawa with the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines.
