Publisher's Mother Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha J. Fortnney age 83 mother of The Courier Publisher Jerald B. Fortney were held Tuesday at Bethlehem West Virginia with burial there. She died Sunday at Preston County Memorial Hospital Kingswood West Virginia and she also leaves another son Thomas J. Fortney of Batavia Clermont County reporter for the Post and Times Star along with two other sons and four daughters.

Amelian To Direct Miami U's Campus At Middletown

Carl Eugene Bennett will leave his post as executive secretary of the Inter-University Council of Ohio to direct Miami University Middletown on July 1. The 38 year old Amelia native will oversee campus opening in September 1966 and supervise construction through launch. Bennett holds a PhD from Ohio State and degrees from Miami and Cincinnati. he and his wife Frances Coates have three children.

Local Drivers Places Third In State Rodeo

Owensville Ray Davis bus driver for Clermont Northeastern School District placed third in the 73 passenger transit class at the State finals of the School Bus Rodeo held May 15 in Worthington Ohio. He finished ten points behind first and four behind second, per Gene Walker transportation supervisor. Davis had won the Southwest District Rodeo in this class at Glen Este High School to qualify for the State finals.

Milford Senior Wins OCAS Math Scholarship

Milford high school senior Wilfred Shearer of 63 Clertoma Drive Milford Ohio won fifth prize in the OCAS mathematics scholarship contest announced by college president W W Culp. Prize is 50 dollars. selections were made from exams held April 24 at the college located on Central Parkway.

Engineering Firm To Study Street Improvement Plan

Batavia Council ordered an engineering study and cost estimate for widening Ely and Bauer Streets to handle higher traffic for a new high school. Barbeau Construction Management will include sidewalks and curbs, with Meadowbrook Drive sewer bids sought by the Board of Public Affairs. Homeowners may be assessed for the project. A joint council township meeting discussed Union Cemetery and fire department operations. Council appointed Ralph Clyburn to the cemetery board replacing Vic Cribbet. other members are Maurice Miller and Clarence Lytle.
