Phillip Weil, an aging German laborer employed as a boreman by Peter Wiles near Williamsville, retrieved a rusty old musket from a tree in the orchard. He loaded it and used a string to trigger self inflicted gunfire, dying instantly from a shot to the heart. Weil had been despondent and feeble, and was buried by his employer.

The Cincinnati, Portsmouth and Virginia railroad will invest about a quarter of a million dollars this year. At Clermont county in particular $100,000 funds new steel trestles replacing wooden structures and regrading to a one percent slope. Joseph Owens, colored, of New Richmond, brought to Batavia Saturday night and jailed on a charge of shooting with intent to kill Thomas Finley. The shooting occurred Friday June 1. Fred Jackson of New Richmond is held as a witness on $100 bond.
On Sunday June 14 the Knights of Pythias will decorate the graves of departed brethren in Union cemetery. The parade forms at 6:00 p m sharp and knights from neighboring lodges are expected to participate and invited.

Mrs. Fanny Raper died at her home on Monday June 1896 after a few weeks illness. She was 77, widow of William Raper deputy Sheriff under Pickleheimer, and sister to Mrs. John Joliffe and Mrs. Dr. Lyman. A resident for over fifty years she belonged to the M EK church and left three daughters and one son. Funeral today at 2 pm in the citizens' cemetery. Mayor Hunt of Milford, elected Republican last fall, visited town on legal business last Friday.
In Amelia a 50th wedding anniversary for William Swein and Nancy Behymer was celebrated at Ten Mile with Rev. John Brunaugh officiating. Relatives recall events since 1846 as the Amelia orchestra played. Distanced guests included Antoni of Delaware and several Behymer relatives from Indianapolis Columbus Cincinnati New Orleans Williamsburg and Marathon.

Joseph F Sheridan a patent medicine maker told the judge a sad tale in his divorce from Fannie M Sheridan. The couple married November 15 1882. she later left February 1 1836 and did not return despite many letters. She was educated and later employed in a government office. Decree granted.
On Friday June 5 a large East Coast crowd attended two ceremonies at Gettysburg to dedicate a Maj. Gen. Meade statue and unveil a Maj. Gen. Hancock statue. George Gordon Meade Jr. unveiled the Meade statue with Gen. David Gregg delivering the oration. Gen. Henry H. Bingham spoke at Hancock. The Pennsylvania G A R and related groups participated as Gov. Hastings accepted the monuments for the Commonwealth.
