Rev Burdsall of the M E church receives praise for leading a flawless Decoration Day program in Batavia. The event drew a large crowd at the hall and cemetery with many county visitors and children contributing to a glorious observance. The two bards were well received and the program proceeded as planned.
Mrs Caroline Swing native of Batavia wife of Judge J B Swing of Cincinnati died at home early last Saturday. She was a longtime Sun day school and church worker beloved in our village. Daughter of the late Philip Swing and sister of Circuit Judge Peter Swing. Funeral at 4 p m Sunday at the Swing residence 2210 Park avenue burial in Batavia Monday. The Judge receives community sympathy in his bereavement.
A farmer named Ben Howland was acquitted of offering and selling his vote in Adams County amid a probe led by Judge Blair. Six of last week’s arraigned defendants pled guilty with $6 fines and five year disfranchisement.
Starting June 1, 1911 brides must appear at the probate court with grooms to answer the same questions for a marriage license. Public life no longer hides brides as they face a long questionnaire, while prices for licenses have risen about one third since 40 years ago.
Little Edmund son of Will Stephens superintendent of the Batavia Challenge Brick Works hatched a good number of chicks from a hen four weeks ago. Three additional chicks hatched when the sun warmed the metal roof, prompting Edmund to consider expanding into poultry if warm weather continues.
