Three Killed At Annual Meeting Amid Fatal Bus Crash

The twenty ninth annual meeting of Clermont County Federation of Womens Clubs was held at New Richmond M E Church on June 13 1929 with morning sessions and reports. A separate crash near Owenville along Route 5 killed Dr E C Ireton and wife and Lucy B Schuyler and injured others aboard a east bound bus and a Chevrolet sedan prompting investigation and hospital transfers.

Decoration Day exercises in Bata were carried out as published, with Eli Speidel speaking briefly. Scouts and drum corps added to the march while weather remained perfect and the cemetery stayed orderly.

Drowning of Stewart Carter Baffles Remington Funeral Plans

The 18 year old Stewart Carter drowned in the Little Miami River while swimming with his sister in Remington. Sheriff Roberts oversaw recovery after a night search. Coroner Corliss was absent, and the body was moved to undertakers for burial preparation. It was ruled an accidental death.

County Board of Visitors Reports Welfare Meeting

The semi annual gathering led by President A G Bagby at Probate Judge Woodmansee’s office notes jail conditions and home facilities. Board commends officials for crime suppression and details home resources, new beds, floors, and furnishings funded at about 1000 dollars. An old fashioned lawn fete at Maple Grove Church on June 8 will raise funds for church redecoration.

County commissioners met May 27 approving numerous payments to individuals and firms for labor relief burial services and supplies. Lloyd C. Hulick aged 48 of West Batavia died Saturday after five months illness. He was a traveling passenger agent for the Canadian and United States Steam Ship Lines with Chicago office. He was a Masonic member and M E church parishioner. funeral held Monday. Survived by widow son and brother. Burial in Union cemetery.

Batavia Scouts Grow as Support Pours In

The Boy Scouts report growing by with uniforms for most boys and praise for the Scoutmaster after parades in Cincinnati and Batavia. Girls join soon with a planned Scout demonstration and fundraising efforts led by 28 members. Generous donations from Judge White S L Larkin and Allen Nichols bolster supplies. Col Penn bought two girl suits at public Armory meetings every Tuesday 7 to 9 pm Mrs H P Abbott captain Edith Winspear first lieutenant.

Clermont County Teachers Institute to Meet at Milford

The institute will be held in Milford during the last week of August after the county fair in Owensville. Sessions take place in the new high school auditorium as the program is prepared. The teachers' exam at Batavia last Saturday had under 30 attendees.

Oldest Civil War Veteran Ties Batavia to Local History

Batavia reports its oldest Civil War veteran as Captain Frank White father of Judge Chas White aged 92 living in town most of his life. In Jackson township only veteran left is Mr Ferree father of Ort Ferree. Both are in fairly good health for their ages.

Merchants Weigh Weekly Half Day Off For Summer

County shops discuss closing one half day weekly in June July and August if most merchants sign on. The idea argues every man deserves a breathing spell from work once a week and suggests a town wide half day off.

Batavia won its season opener by 3 to 1 over the Mt. Washington Gun Club on Decoration Day. Temple pitched well for Batavia, holding the Gun Club to five scattered hits. Lehnehmer started strong for the Gun Club but faded. the game stayed tight 2 to 3 until the ninth when Smith stole second and scored on Fishback’s Dart to second, misplayed by the shortstop.

Laurel set to face Batavia in high anticipated Sunday clash

Laurel travels to Batavia next Sunday June 9 for a key road test after adding several new Kentucky players. A large crowd is expected as it is Laurel's last home game until June 30 with June 16 and 23 away dates already scheduled.

Portsmouth Ohio State Highway Division Superintendent Charley Noel announced appointments in eight counties. George B Stanhope of Chillicothe becomes division general inspector of maintenance. Homer Remley of Mr Crab is maintenance superintendent in Brown County. Joseph Roach of Hillsboro is maintenance superintendent in Highland County. Adrian Earhart of Fayetteville Brown County is division superintendent of route marking. Sam B Marks moves to Ross County as division superintendent of equipment. Walter McCoy of Jackson is Jackson County highway maintenance superintendent. Joseph C Roush west of Hillsboro near Fairview is Highland County maintenance superintendent, succeeding Sam B Marks who becomes equipment chief for the division.

More than 700 building and loan officials from Hamilton Clermont and Brown counties gathered at the Gibson Hotel in Cincinnati for the annual spring meeting. The event featured speeches led by Ben F.
