Columbus OPA officials deny reports of delays in mailing War Ration Book No 3. Director H T Beckmann says most applications have minor errors and will be corrected. no one will go hungry. About 2,550 volunteers will staff three shifts daily to reach July 21 completion.
Clermont County poultry farmers are urged to produce about 2,311,000 dozen eggs in 1943 as part of the Food for Victory program. The National Poultry Defense Committee cites favorable past output of 2,181,000 dozen and notes progress in flock size. Factors include good weather, strong demand, and prices, but shortages of protein feeds and labor threaten future gains.
The Vacation Bible School will run from June 14 to June 25 with classes at Amelia Baptist Church from 9 00 to 11 30 a m. All children are welcome to attend.
Airmen at a bomber station in England say the Flying Fortress "In the Mood" piloted by First Lieut. Robert W. Mansfield likely belly landed in the sea after anti aircraft fire. Crew survivability remains uncertain though some say crew may be alive.

The will of 85 year old Batavia businessman Thomas A. Keen was filed in Clermont County Probate. The estate valued 130000 to 150000 dollars allocated to relatives and local organizations with bequests to Keen relatives and friends. Executors named Eli Speidel. Local real estate assets include Covington Kentucky properties and the family homestead in Batavia.
Clermont County villages joined a regional blackout after dark on Tuesday. Air-raid wardens were posted, lights went out, and traffic halted briefly. Cincinnati reports say the blackout worked citywide except downtown. warnings reached as far east as Batavia.
The Home Front Helpers 4-H Club met at Mrs. Charles McGuire’s home on June 8, 1948. Jessie Thompson was elected treasurer. Members planned a canning poster demonstration to be held June 11 at Mt. Carmel-Glen Este school at 1 30 p m. Seven members attended with one visitor.
Lester Simmons and F. C. Hartsock report 59 Clermont County highway employees across Maintenance Construction and Planning have authorized payroll deductions for E Series Bonds. Deputy Director Parker Bookwalter lauds the record and notes many also buy bonds in home towns despite payroll plans and stagnant salaries.
More than 75 wards of Clermont County Child Welfare Board were guests at Coney Island, hosted by the Cincinnati Automobile Club and park management. About 3,000 children from Hamilton Brown Warren Clinton and Clermont counties enjoyed boat rides, free park rides, dinner, and refreshments, with fifteen volunteer drivers transporting Clermont youths to Cincinnati and back under E. C. Manning and Frances Reese supervision.
4 H Advisors meeting at Owensville last Tuesday elected the Clermont County 4 H Club Executive Council. Members include Mrs. Thornton Snider Goshen Mrs. Wm Bell Perintown Mr Rolla Anderson Goshen Mrs Chas Hyser Tabasco Mr Clifford Ward Mulberry Mrs Clarence Lamb Franklin Mrs Paul Steele Goshen and Mrs Blanche Ludlow Williamsville. Hold over members are Mr J W Evans Owensville and Mrs Hazel Harris Milford. The Executive Council formulates all policies and programs.
The Mt. Carmel Glen Este PTA hosts a canning demonstration at the school on Friday June 11 at 1 30 p m. Learn new preservation methods from experienced demonstrators and bring your own methods up to date.
Governor Bricker proclaims June as Dairy Month to honor Ohio dairy farmers aiding the war effort through increased production. The campaign lists participating groups and a wartime four color poster “He Also Serves” showing a farmer with milk. U.S. 1943 milk goal set at 122 billion pounds, with dairy products vital for armed forces and civilians. Army rations plan daily fluid milk per soldier and large monthly needs for ice cream butter and cheese.
More than fifty Clermont County farmers from all townships and farm groups met at Batavia to discuss forming a Soil Conservation District. They plan to hold a late August election after petitions are signed and submitted to the State Committee for approval or disapproval. An executive Sponsoring Committee led by Peter Urban and others from every township was elected to steer the effort.
The Office of Price Administration announced June 6 point changes for canned and bottled processed foods soups frozen and dried fruits vegetables meat fats fish and cheese. Notable shifts include tomato juice and tomato juice blends halved from 6 to 3 points and frozen corn on the cob at 1 point per ear from 4 per 10 to 12 ounce package reflecting scarcer supplies.

The Clermont County Farm Labor and Machinery Committee reports a farmer survey of prevailing wages for farm help. It shows experienced men at 25 to 80 cents per hour (average 45c), man and team about 70c per hour, man and tractor around 1.93 dollars per hour, high school boys 25 to 35 cents, and monthly wages near 51 dollars. Northern county wages slightly higher than southern.
