Batavia Alumni Association marked its 50th anniversary with a Saturday night gathering at Batavia U B Church. Judge Charles White awarded a scholarship to Ruth Bell of Union Township. $5,000 was contributed by Mrs. Bessie Cowen Swing plus $100 from Dr F P Hamilton.

Batavia High School Holds Commencement Ceremony
The Batavia High School commencement was held at Batavia town hall last Thursday night. A large audience heard a well delivered program by 22 graduates including 10 Batavia district residents and 12 from neighboring areas. The Batavia Town Orchestra accompanied with violin selections and speeches by Jean Meyer Mary Jean Wasner and others. Diplomas were presented by the Board of Education with Rev. Huecker giving benediction.

Brown county farmers boast fine tobacco plants while Clermont county trails not far behind. Attorney W. C. Bishop owns a superior Elk Lick farm with top plants, and Wm. Livengood of Williamsburg township also shows strong stocks. Ezra Seyler set tobacco on April 30, 1926, and raised a banner crop. M. R. Huggins of Bethel reports ripe tomatoes, and Robi Woods of Batavia has plants turning red.

Reverend Edmund Burdsall Rites Noted Veteran Minister Passes
Reverend Edmund Burdsall of the Ohio Methodist Conference died at his Batavia home on June 2 after a long illness. He served in the Civil War in multiple units, taught school, and spent 52 years as a minister. Burial in Union Cemetery, Batavia, follows services. Survived by daughter, son-in-law, and grandson Harold Spencer.

Double barreled gun accident claims girl in Goshen area
A system describes the instant death of Miss Blanche Page near Goshen after a shotgun behind a door fell and discharged striking her behind the left ear. Coroner Corliss ruled it accidental. Funeral plans were announced. The gun had sat in the position for weeks used to scare crows.

Fine weather drew thousands to Clermont county cemeteries for Decoration Day events. In Batavia the Union cemetery hosted parades led by the American Legion Band, flowers cast on the water at Main street bridge, and a speech by Rev. Huecker. A twelve-man squad under Lieut. Ely fired a salute over Roland Lewis’s grave as Brice Hendrixson sounded taps.

Will provides relief fund to five Ohio Kentucky towns
Inquiry by Fifth Third National Bank of Cincinnati reviews the first distribution from a $10,000 will set aside by the late Gus A.
