Batavia Scouts Sell Ice Balls For Summer Fund Drive

Batavia Troop 263 Boy Scouts operate an ice ball stand on Main Street. They earn about 89.90 in the first week, recouping the 35 dollar machine cost. Expenses include wholesale ice syrup from Hi-Port and paper cups. Five patrols rotate weekly under scout leaders Herb Hoberg and Robert Slade.

IRS to close Batavia branch in Cincinnati district revamp

Irvin L. Davis announces a restructuring of the Cincinnati District with 13 southern Ohio counties. Batavia Georgetown Hillsboro Xenia Washington Court House Piqua and Piqua branch offices will be discontinued though visitation space remains. New staffing places collection officers and internal revenue agents at each remaining office for improved service and one hour drive access.

Boy runs from sheriff then recaptured by father

A 17 year old Batavia juvenile escaped from the office of Sheriff Clyde Dericks after being brought there by juvenile probation officer Fred Holt following a judge order to the Boy's Industrial School in Lancaster Ohio. The youth was missing until his father delivered him back to custody.

State Highway Dept May Reconsider Wider US 52 Plan

The department will reconsider a four lane expansion of Route 52 near New Richmond after a traffic check showed 5 500 vehicles daily with 20 percent trucks. Delegation included Maurice Henderson and Rep John Hayden. Officials at the Construction Council were not available.

Board Orders Permits For Gillenstein Gallenstein Subdivision

Clermont County Board of Health was ordered to issue 50 plumbing permits to Gallenstein Brothers Inc for the Milford subdivision. The writ of mandamus was allowed after a $720 check was presented by Nichols Speidel and Nichols. Damages were requested but not specified as the Galfensteins allege delays in completing houses.

Clermont to review county budget requests for 1956

County departments filed requests totaling about 45000 more than anticipated revenue as the Clermont commission prepares to meet on June 22. Child welfare seeks 41000 for 1956 up from 28000, driving most of the increase. A budget trim or a November levy may be sought to cover the gap.

Suit Filed Over Chair Idea and Royalties

William B. King of Memphis Tennessee sues Williamsburg Chair Factory Inc in US District Court Cincinnati for 5625 claiming the Babe N Youth chair copied his idea and that a royalty agreement existed for 25 cents per chair. He says only 15 cents per 300 chairs were paid and 22 500 chairs were manufactured.

Wind Breaks Tree Hurls Limbs Into Judd Road Home

High winds ripped branches from an oak tree in front of 295 Judd Road and threw them through the roof of the Tennison home Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Tennison and her husband cleaned plaster and debris this week after the storm damaged the dining room and bedroom ceilings.
