Forty ninth Clermont County Sunday School Convention at New Richmond
The forty ninth annual Clermont County Sunday School Association convention met at New Richmond on May 25 26. Sessions featured music led by M H McNeill and organist Mrs Alice McMurchy with various pastors teachers and delegates delivering addresses on Sunday school work including the advancement of the Young Men's Bible Class and lessons titled Does Jesus Care Heavenly Guides and The Boy Problem. Delegates enjoyed a post session ride to Government Dam and elected next year’s officers with McNeill presiding.

Death of Major Zed South leaves vast Newtonsville family
Major Zed South died last Saturday at his Newtonsville home after weeks with paralysis stroke. The Civil War veteran ran a huckster and grocery business and served as town postmaster since 1881. An Odd Fellow and commander of William Needham Post for 20 years, he leaves a widow and daughter. Funeral Tuesday. obituary to appear next week.

Clermont Girl Wins County Spelling Contest
In Clermont county only two girls entered the county spelling contest at Edenton with Dolores Ludwick 12 years old declared the winner after a twenty-word test. Supt Aultman judged, with Mrs Haggerty and Mrs Clara Titus contesting afterward in a spirited exchange. The state contest in Columbus Friday June 4 is expected to draw many participants for Governor’s prize and other awards.

Adams county volunteers build better roads in one day
Farmers and neighbors in Adams county laid five hundred loads of rock and material in a single day free of charge. Teams worked in gangs under captains, improving county routes as funds run short. A June 8 section plans to use 100 plus teams with a local gathering to sustain the effort.

A 100th anniversary celebration for Williamsburg Masonic lodge drew more than 1500 attendees on June 1. The Hanselman Commandry, a 200-strong group with band and wives, led a procession from the train to the lodge site and then to a park program featuring addresses, a history of the lodge, and a basket dinner for 600.

Rev Van Pelt preached the Batavia 1915 baccalaureate sermon at the town hall before a large attentive audience. The Batavia Cornet Band played as the class entered and sat on stage. Worship leaders included Revs Burdsall Simpson Wegner and Van Pelt with bunting and flowers decorating the stage. Soloist Clem DeBruel from Winchester performed two solos with Miss Bess Walker at the piano. The service included invocation scripture reading and benediction. Batavia’s band earned high praise for its skilled musicianship.

Rev De Lee Ankman gave an eloquent address before a packed hall, honoring veterans of the Civil War while the Batavia Concert Band played. Memorial Sunday at the church drew fifteen comrades and a full congregation. A baptismal prelude honored the infants of Mr and Mrs Dodsworth and Mr and Mrs Spencer born on the same day.
