Hearing Set On Water Line Job

The county commissioners will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. June 26 on the proposed 12 inch feeder main on Shayler Rd Union Township. Estimated cost of the Pierce Union Batavia Water System project is 18900 dollars. The commissioners also acted on animal damage claims and accepted a park tractor bid.

Lightning Sets Fire To Bethel Home In Sunday Blaze

Lightning struck wiring igniting a two story Bethel home of Mr. and Mrs. John Flottman on Case Rd near Bethel at 9 30 p m Sunday. Damage was about 3000 with attic and second floor loss and no fire insurance for the owners. Bethel Fire Department aided by Monroe Township water truck fought the blaze for two hours. Thieves Almost Get Carburetor From Patrol Car

Police report two attempted auto part thefts last week. At Goshen a 1967 auto was disrupted but thieves left after removing most of the carburetor from a patrol car outside Cann Ford in Batavia. The attempt occurred around 12:30 a.m. with officers noting multiple patrol checks.

Ohio bus driver Davis earns second in state rodeo

Ray Davis, Clermont Northeastern driver, scored 507 of 550 to finish second in the Ohio State Bus Rodeo. Grand regional champion at Wilmington, he has nine years with North Eastern, five trophies, a state commendation, and 315000 miles without an accident. Davis, of Jackson Pike Owensville, is married to Geneva Malone with three children.

Telephone Line Cut During Picketing Near Batavia Plant

A telephone cable at the plant was cut last week while a picket from Local 1347 clashed with security. James Sandlin of Rt. 1 New Richmond faces disorderly conduct charges after remarks to a deputy during the dispute in Batavia Ohio.

Milford High School Scholar Sentenced in Break-In Case

Thomas Meeker 18 received 5 30 year terms in Mansfield Reformatory for participating in a March 20 burglary at Denzil Cain’s Dublin Drive home worth 414 dollars. He and two juveniles, tied to other Miami Township burglaries and car thefts, faced the judge after Meeker claimed peer pressure and whiskey influenced the crime. he said he did not want to break in.

Lehker Named Engineer for Douglas Aircraft Saturn Moon Project

Wayne H. Lehker, a 1963 Case Institute of Technology electrical engineering graduate, will serve as scientist engineer with Douglas Aircraft Corp. He will split time among California headquarters Houston Space Center and Cape Kennedy. The Hamlet, Ohio native earned over 40 awards in high school and was a National Honor Society member and National Merit finalist.

CAC Names Richmond Assistant Director for County Action

Jack W. Richmond named assistant director of the Clermont County Community Action Commission by John Hanson at the board meeting in the Clermont County Service Center. Richmond will start June 15 and will help expand the program with prior teaching experience in Northeastern Milford and Goshen School Districts.

Woman Injured In Ram Attack Near Locust Corner

Mrs. Lulu Lipps, 83, of 3531 Merwin Ten Mile Road, was seriously injured last week when a buck sheep attacked her in a field while she gathered hay. She suffered a fractured right shoulder and left leg plus body bruises and is hospitalized at Christ. Marie Boggs and Dorothy Schneider, passing by, found her and used a pitchfork to rescue her. The sheep had been teased previously by children and not considered dangerous. Lipps has long served as a Courier correspondent for her community.

Family Hurt In Two Car Crash Near Stone Lick Lake

Richard G. Hughes 18 his wife Jewell 18 and their eight month old son were treated for minor injuries after their car collided with Georgia Tumbleson 32 of Cincinnati at a hillcrest on Rt 727 near Stone Lick Lake. The Hughes car then left the road and struck a utility pole.

Board To Seek College Charter

The board of trustees for a community college will meet with the state board of regents soon to seek a charter here. The board met last week to map plans for an appearance before state board representatives.
