Batavia commencement attracted a full house as graduates with bright looks received diplomas from Supt. Marlowe after a program that featured a prayer by Rev. Wegner and benediction by Rev. McCulloch. Prof. Thompson of the University of Athens spoke for thirty minutes. The Batavia orchestra provided music. Henry Horn, a farmer on the Amelia pike west of Batavia, was struck from behind in his barn while feeding stock. He repelled the intruder who fled. a family withdrawal from the bank that day suggested robbery as a motive, but nothing was found missing.

Jacob Hartman Rapp born December 18 1947 died May 2 1921 aged 78 years 5 months 12 days. He lived on a farm then moved to Williamsburg Ohio later joining United Brethren church and helped build its church.
