Clermont County to Hold First Common Schools Commencement
The first annual common schools commencement for Clermont County will be held at City Hall Batavia on Saturday June 4 with 175 pupils from one township receiving diplomas issued by the Ohio State. Judge Frank Davis and Judge James B. Swing will speak. Miss Mary Cowen Miss Bertha Bishop and Eugene Dial will supervise music. Washington Township also notes its six graduates in Moscow with a full program of speeches and songs led by Supt Bolenbaugh and others.

The Pierce township commencement at the M E church drew a large audience for a three hour program. Students led by Florence Smith and Ida Bragdon performed with skill while Prof T L Simmerman spoke on Boxwell law and school progress. The event heralded a new era with plans for a high school and rejuvenated academy building under Principal Sam Fulton.

J C Tat man & Company purchased 7,000 pounds while F A Hitch, C P Bilis Company, Albert Lane, and George Davis bought large lots. Buyers from New Richmond, Wil ameburg, Felicity, Moscow and Chile report full warehouses as prices range 6 to 17 cents per pound for new ground crops. The market remains strong and is expected to stay high.

On a sunny day crowds filled the court house and yard for Decoration Day ceremonies. The Clermontville band joined Commander Fred Neiman in leading a cemetery service and graves were decorated with flowers. Captain Robert Richardson of Kentucky gave an address amid stirring tunes.

Col Thomas A. Burns will meet tobacco growers at the court house in Batavia on Saturday June 18 1892 at two oclock p m. The meeting aims to promote the tobacco exhibit at the Colombian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.
