Mrs Mary Hopkins widow of Benjamin Hopkins died at her home at the head of Main street Thursday morning at age 87. A longtime Bata via resident she moved here with her husband from Virginia. Endured rheumatism and was a highly esteemed Christian woman, leaving many friends. She was buried from her home on Sunday.
James A Johnson, born in Texas and raised in Ohio, rose from sheriff to Greene county treasurer, ran for Congress in the Sixth District in May 1892 and was defeated. He pledges to support the Republican surge led by Judge Hulick, calling for a grand party victory. He says invincible legions sweep valleys and hilltops to defend party principles.
William Boulware lifelong Batavia resident died at home Sunday evening June 5 1892 at sundown. Born Williamsburg 1840 he joined Capt Hulicks company April 1861 then reenlisted with company F 50th Ohio serving three years and re enlisted again until war end. Widely respected a faithful husband father and friend he served as Presbyterian church and school sexton and was buried with G A R honor Tuesday.
In Corwin Warren County a school board member was expelled for profane swearing while a teacher named Corwin faced reappointment. The six member panel split three to three, then voted three to two to remove McKinsey, replacing him with a Corwin leaning member as the board kept its four seats aligned with Corwin.
