North Union Firemen Host Ninth Annual Fere Festival
North Union Fire Department announces its ninth annual firenews festival set for Friday through Sunday, July 31 to August 2 on the firehouse grounds Summerside. Chairman Summers and 32 volunteers organize rides games booths and food including Jack Salmon dinners Friday and meatballs and spaghetti Saturday and Sunday. Cash prizes of 300 200 and 100 will be awarded to festival winners and proceeds fund the new pump and house maintenance with plans for an addition within months. The department organized March 12 1955 and has since expanded to a well equipped fire and first aid squad.

Dayton Firm Low Bidder On Plants
Adrian Construction Co. of Dayton submitted the low bid of 444 245 for two treatment plants and a laboratory in the 3.1 million Union Township sewer project. The bid was 97 525 below the engineer’s estimate after a prior withdrawal over new wage scales. Other bids ranged to 501 000. work is set to begin by August 15 with government financing.

Bethel Tate school district secured a state grant of 703629 with a 59000 bond issue and a 50 cent per thousand levy. Voters approved 528 to 260. Bethel village turnout favored the measures 183 to 121. The package funds a 1025000 high school and a 424754 nine room elementary, plus 30000 contingencies.

Sesqui Celebrates Batavia Sesquicentennial End
The Batavia Sesquicentennial celebration closed Sunday with a band concert by the Sesqui Band and a six day event marked by a parade, a camp meeting, and a county fairground program. Notable incidents included a machinery accident injuring Wesley Roush and the death of former Clermont County Sheriff Garland G. Auxier. The parade drew about 25,000 spectators with bands, floats, and awards presented by county judges.

Former Sheriff Auxier Rites Held in Batavia
Services for Garland G. Auxier 60 former Clermont County sheriff were held at Moore Funeral Home Batavia with burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. He died after collapsing while at the Batavia Sesquicentennial. He led the county sheriff office 1933 to 1941 and later ran Auxier Chevrolet Agency.
