Two Men Held As Looting Suspects

Two Cincinnati men are jailed and two more sought as police probe a Sunday night looting attempt at Schney Distributing Co in Locust Corner. Harry Kelley was arrested after shotgun pellets were found on him at LeBlond Park. Clarence Vaughn was captured at the plant with shotgun injuries and later jailed in Batavia. Police tie lootings to taverns and The Clermont Courier and Angy’s Cafe burglaries as investigations continue.

Grange Quartette Wins District Singing Contest

The Williamsburg Grange ladies quartette won the district singing contest at Lebanon and will compete in the state finals on August 24. Miss Cecile Glancy is their subordinate lecturer, and Tillie Atchley urges Grangers attending the Ohio State Fair to visit during the finals. The Marathon unit has inspection set for August 6. Carl Anstaett, Clermont County deputy Grange Master, is expected to return home from the hospital Saturday.

Park Fund Drive Starts in Withamsville Area

Park officials in Withamsville gather hundreds of local families Saturday to raise funds for a 30 acre park land offered for sale at 8000 by Harry Norris operator of a local food store The drive runs to meet a 90 day option expiring in October The board expects a financial report in about two weeks and has not released Saturday totals.

Sapp Guilty Of Manslaughter In Clermont County

Archie Sapp, 39, of Chile, found guilty of manslaughter for fatally shooting Arlie Bravard, 59, with a .22 rifle during a confrontation over divorce plans. The verdict followed a reduced charge from murder after jury deliberation in Clermont County Common Pleas Court. Prosecutors Ray Bradford and Ralph Hill led the case. defense included Louis J. Schwartz, William B. Mathews, and Jo Davenport Smith. Judge Harry Britton presided. the jury included A. W. Brown and others from Bethel, New Richmond, Amelia, Batavia, and Newtown.

Merit Award Given To Doctor By DAR

Dr. J. P. Allen a physician with over fifty years of practice in Williamsburg received the Award of Merit from the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution during the local homecoming Friday evening July 23. Victim Recovered After Boat Capsize Near Dam 35

The body of Edward Chalk, 28, of Cincinnati, was recovered from the Ohio River near the Walter Beckford power station by a towboat crew after his outboard motorboat capsized near Dam 35. Chalk’s wife Mary and Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Mundy were rescued from the water.

Clermont County Sees Slow Start to Fiscal Year

Clermont County reports sluggish first ten days of the fiscal year starting July 1 with prepaid tax receipt collections at 11,921.04 versus 17,432.39 a year earlier. Losses across all business classifications statewide include 276,424 in automotive and 11,176 in food. Eben S. Ricker of Pierce township credited with introducing the osage hedge to the county.

Site Chosen For Telephones Exchange In Clermont County

The Cincinnati and Suburban Company announced the future site for a new telephone building to serve southwest Clermont County. Ohio Public Utilities Commission approval followed as plans to improve service in the Ohio Pike area were outlined. The Tabasco and Amelia Exchanges are to be housed there and service is to begin by the summer of 1956.
