Mayor Stewart to Address Republican Meeting in Amelia

The Clermont County Young Republican Club hosts a dinner meeting on Thursday August 4 at an Amelia school. Principal speaker is Hon. James Stewart Mayor of Cincinnati, noted as an engaging speaker. Republicans invited especially the club’s youths. Reservations for dinner 50 cents per plate due by Saturday to Mayor J M Wiseman Batavia.

Milford Village Council Approves Street Resurfacing Plan

Funds were appropriated at the last regular council meeting to surface the street between Craver Funeral Home and Milford Methodist Church. The council also ordered minor Water Street repairs near the Shafer home to keep rainwater out. Riverside Park is granted to the Milford Civic Club for Labor Day carnival, with two out of town evangelists allowed to erect tents in the park for religious services.

A joint picnic of the Eagle Lodge groups from Blanchester and Batavia took place at Ronocco Park near Fayetteville on Sunday. Attendees enjoyed a picnic dinner and a ball game with Batavia losing.

Young Men Arrested on Forgery Warrants in Lima

In Lima two men William Corliss 19 of Batavia and Ed Tumberson 23 of Owensville were arrested on warrants issued by Mayor J M Wiseman's court here charged with forgery. Deputy Tom Brooks brought them back for trial.

Mrs Brittingham Walker 74 Dies in Huntington West Virginia

Mrs. Brittingham Walker 74 died at her daughter Mrs. Frank Clement’s home in Huntington W V early Saturday. She was born near Point Isabel and was the widow of George Walker Felicity. A longtime Clermont county schoolteacher. Caldwell Named Full Time Assistant in Clermont County

George Caldwell retired Marathon band instructor was named full time assistant to Ernest Ruffner WPA certifying officer in Clermont county. Caldwell receives $50 monthly plus 4 cents per mile for transportation out of county relief funds. Ruffner was set at $100, with William Brossart added as assistant to State Relief Examiner Andrew Gruber.

County Commissioner Frank Willis Dies at Home

Frank Willis aged 62, county commissioner, collapsed and died at his residence this morning. He leaves a widow and one daughter.

Davey Addresses Big Crowd in Batavia Court House Steps

Governor Davey visited Clermont County on Tuesday and spoke to a large crowd from the court house steps about relief measures, the old age pensioners, and highway work. He then spoke in Georgetown and Portsmouth later that day.

Eastern Stars Picnic Returns to Serpent Mound Site

The Eastern Stars of the 22nd district covering Clermont Brown Adams and Scioto counties held their annual picnic at Serpent Mound in Adams county Friday. Each Chapter was represented with a basket dinner enjoyed by attendees.

Aged Batavian Resident Charles Horner Dies in Cincinnati

Charles Horner 94 oldest male Batavia resident died Monday night at Good Samaritan Hospital Cincinnati after Hernia operation. A blacksmith by trade once with Moore Carriage, he was in Batavia over 60 years and belonged to Oddfellows Lodge and Presbyterian church. Survived by four daughters Elizabeth Horner Augusta Hulick Althea Moyer and Mrs Wm Wolf. Funeral Thursday at 10 A M from Moore Funeral Home with Rev Vernon Martin officiating.

4H Clubs Hold Joint Meeting At School Building

The Willing Workers Food Club and Cheerful Workers Sewing Club met July 19 at the school building. President Doris Fetter led the session, minutes were read by Mary Ellen Evans, and plans were made to meet July 26 at Owensville School Auditorium. Drunken Driver Arrest in Batavia Jail

Sam Jeffries of Michigan was arrested on Route 125 Sunday afternoon for operating an automobile while intoxicated by Corporal J M Kratzer of the State Highway Patrol in Georgetown. He was placed in Batavia jail.

The Clermont county commissioners met in adjourned session at Batavia on Monday July 25 with J M Hutchinson Frank Kig and Ezra Seyler present. Clermont Aerie Eagles No. 2289 sponsor a floodlit softball tournament at Batavia the week of August 16 with three games nightly at 8 9 and 10 o clock. Loveland Considers 88000 Bond Issue At August Primary

Loveland residents will vote on an 88000 bond proposal for Loveland schools at the August 9 primary. The plan covers a new auditorium and high school, room additions, and improvements with an estimated 160000 total cost. The federal government would provide 72000 45 percent and the district 88000 55 percent.

Hamersville Park Nearing Completion Opens Soon

Hamersville's new public park, two and a half acres inside the town limits, is nearing completion. About 15 National Youth Administration workers and the State Highway Department are building it at no village cost. The park will be supervised by the State Highway Patrol and allows tourists to stay one day and one night. Ground was donated by N. D. Liming, one mile north of Hamersville.

Milford Youth Bound Over to Grand Jury

John Edward Willey nineteen was charged with entering the L Barret home on Garfield Avenue Milford. He appeared before Mayor William Brower and, failing to furnish a $500 bond, was bound over to the Clermont county grand jury and placed in the Batavia county jail Friday.

Mt. Orab Woman Killed by Freight Train

Mrs. Juda Ridings, 80, was struck and killed by a Norfolk and Western freight train Friday along tracks near her Mt. Orab home near Martin Redmond farm. She reportedly walked along the tracks opposite her home. She leaves a stepson Carl Ridings and stepdaughter Mrs. Della Earhart. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 P. M. in the Christian Church with burial in Mt. Orab cemetery.

Robert Felter Dies in Berkeley California at 71

Clermont county reports the death of Robert C. Felter 71 in Berkeley California on July 12 after a hit and run incident near University and Shattuck Avenues. A retired Southern Pacific employee, he had lived in Berkeley since 1923 and is survived by his widow Dorothy I Felter a son Donald three sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were held July 15 at Edward E Niehaus Funeral Home in Berkeley. 4H Club Members to Attend Club Camp

Clermont and Hamilton county 4H club members will attend the senior 4H club camp at Lake Allyn near Batavia next week. The County Agricultural Agent's Office reports over 100 campers are expected to participate.
