Two trucks collided head on in Mt Carmel on a Saturday afternoon. John Herbole of Mt Healthy and Miss Bernice Guenther of Batavia were in one vehicle, while Wm Howes of Newtown drove the other. Both trucks were badly damaged, the drivers escaped with minor injuries, but Miss Guenther suffered a dangerous neck cut and was taken to Bethesda hospital in Cincinnati.

The Batavia Concert Band will give a free concert at Batavia town hall on Thursday July 28 at 8 15 pm. U S Leach night telegraph operator for Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad near Omega Pike county found slain in his cabin early today. A bullet passed through his body near the heart smashing a clock at 5 24. His pockets were rifled but his watch remained. Three men were seen boarding a freight train shortly before discovery. Leach survived by widow and three children. He lived at Waverly. He is husband of Mrs Guyndolan daughter of Wm Ducheman Marathon.

William Kennedy aged 20, of Boston Massachusetts, died after overheating on Route 59 near Owensville while hitchhiking to Portsmouth. Sheriff Roberts and Deputy Meinken rescued him, treated him at Batavia, provided lodging, then sent him to his Portsmouth home where his father farms.

Funeral Saturday at 2 p.m. Mack Johnson Funeral Home Cincinnati. Burial Owensville Case. Deputy State Fire Marshal John F. Hartman investigated a potential arson fire in Georgetown discovering a hole in a barber shop floor filled with material to start a second floor blaze. Fire was extinguished with minor damage and Hartman returned Monday for further inquiry.
