State Highway crews completed a new survey of Davis Hill south of Batista seeking a new road. Local residents have faced a dangerous, worn path for years while funds were spent on maintenance. Frank Galbreath reports the survey is done and work should start this season.
Batavia and Williamsburg are eliminated from the Clermont County Baseball League title chase after recent losses. Williamsburg may protest Mount Carmel’s Sunday win as it goes to press. Sunday's games featured late drama with Williamsburg tying 2-2 in the ninth before a decisive 11th inning by Vic to Pence.
After elimination both teams announce a three game series with the first game at Williamsburg next Sunday. New faces join both lineups as all salary players have been released. Lofty Chaddock will start for Batavia while Williamsburg has not named their pitcher.
The Fletcher Bennett Woods family reunion will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Trout near Williamsburg on Saturday August 18. All relatives are invited to attend. For cement building blocks contact J. O. Fuhr Williamsburg. O. 1stf
The Annual Red Cross gathering set for Friday night August 12 in Pt. Pleasant will involve welfare groups countywide. Judge Nichols urges township trustees and charity organizations to attend for open discussion on aiding the unemployed and their families this winter. Light refreshments will replace dinner. Invitations go to organization heads with several hundred expected. County speakers will be drawn from local groups.
Off For Camp Headquarters Company O of Batavia left for Camp Perry on Sunday morning last for a two weeks outing. The boys are described as full of life and bright as a new dollar and as one of the best drilled in the state. They perform their duties easily, are hardened to camp life, and report satisfactory pay with quarters and meals beyond expectations.
Columbus Ohio July 27 Republicans coordinate presidential and state campaigns with joint party headquarters. Edward Martin will serve as administrative assistant to Charles H Lewis and represent the national ticket. Earl R Johnson Represents Ingalls. Gilbert Bettman to be represented by Charles L Sherwood.
Attention tobacco pool members. a meeting of stock holders of the Ohio District Warehousing Co. will be held August 4 at 8 p m in the Court House Batavia to discuss the proposed dissolution. Bargains in gas stores ranges and equipment as low as 71 60 from P My Rapp Batavia.

Cincinnati firms expand payrolls and the public mood turns optimistic about a recovery, aided by President Hoover. Statewide school cost increases are outlined, urging fiscal reform and clearer education funding.
Sunday July 17 a quarrel at the Red Bridge above Batavia between Batavia men John Davis Levi Curtis and Young Overholz and Mr Gibson and his sons led to a free for all. Davis was stabbed Curtis cut his heart and both are seriously injured. Dr Van torn dressed the wounds. No arrests. Targets recovering.
Mrs Esther B McTamany died early Saturday July 30 at her Main Street home after a brief illness. She was daughter of the late Joseph Bicking former treasurer of Clermont County and mother of James McTamany of Louisville Kentucky. Funeral from the home of Mr and Mrs W Bishop Monday afternoon with burial in Union Cemetery. Mrs Augustus Elmer died Thursday after a lingering illness at her Water Street home. She is survived by her husband and one daughter Mrs Frank Schissler. Funeral from Moore Funeral Home Sunday afternoon with burial in Union Cemetery.
Notice sent to hundreds of county taxpayers to appear at Batavia courthouse on Tuesday and Wednesday to explain missing intangible property from tax lists. Respondents were told to list stocks and bonds. taxes ranged from one cent to higher amounts for those who failed to list. One woman drove 40 miles in distress over a 7 cent assessment. Total collected under $1000.
A musicale will be presented Friday night at eight o'clock by Batavia U B Church new orchestra under H J Royalty and Florence Royalty. Program includes orchestra selections vocal solo by Mrs Florence Royalty instrumental duet by Mary Katherine Bauer and David Branch. Guest soloist Mrs Rush, a noted violin teacher from Lindale New Richmond Pike. Admission is 10 cents to fund future concerts. Everyone is invited.
At the 4 H Club gathering on July 28 Alma Aicholtz gave an individual sewing demonstration. Members discussed exhibitions during the business meeting and then the leader reviewed work and offered critique.
President Hoover and cabinet members reduce salaries to set example for public offices. In Ohio, Wooster hosts the first egg auction in Wayne County with 181 cases sold in two hours. Prices ranged from 12 cents to higher for top grades, minus operating costs. Clermont County farmers show strong interest in expanding the idea to fruit and vegetables.
The new federal relief bill allocates 120 million dollars for highway construction nationwide with Ohio receiving 4.49 million. Funds must be used on the federal aid system and contracts will include minimum wage and relief labor clauses plus weekly hour limits. About 1.6 million goes to direct labor and total labor and equipment value reaches roughly 3.75 million. Ohio can largely complete its 1932 highway program despite reduced state revenues.
Clermont County 4-H members will showcase more than 400 plates of vegetables at the Clermont County Fair. Growers must plant and tend their own gardens and have earned praise from County Agent Wilson for meticulous plots likely to rival adult gardeners.
