Tragic Well Drowning On Reed Farm Near Green Briar
Five year old Francis Clayton Thompson drowned after falling into an 85 foot well on the Bert Reed farm near Green Briar last Saturday evening. Neighbors and the father Hendrick Thompson attempted rescue with a rope and pumps, but the child died before nightfall. The family had only recently moved to the farm from Walnut Hills, and includes two boys and two girls.

Circle No 8 of the M H church held a Saturday market at the Court House corner selling fresh vegetables and Sunday dinner items. Early corn was in high demand, tomatoes were scarce while other products were plentiful. Spring chickens sold quickly and organizers hope to continue such markets with other church circles.

Daylight Robbery In Milford Ends With Losses
Thieves entered the home of Robert R. Mayfield a Pennsylvania railroad employee in Milford between 10 a m and 8 p m Friday turning the house upside down with a pinch bar. They took two diamond rings a signet revolver two banjos and valuable old coins. Entrance gained through a rear window. Mrs Mayfield was in the city at the time and deputy sheriff Robert Roberts investigated with a description of two men seen nearby.

Batavians Hurt In Middletown Bus Crash
Passengers Mrs Florence Speidel of Batavia and Miss Virginia Gelvin of Cincinnati were injured when a bus from Bethel to Cincinnati struck a bridge near Middletown and Hamilton. Speidel suffered numerous bruises and a head cut. Gelvin remained unconscious briefly. They were taken to Middletown Hospital. Speidel later rested at Mrs W W Dowdneys home after Dr Ashburn assisted. The driver claimed steering gear locked and fast speed on a sharp curve contributed to the wreck.

Loveland Council Orders Speeders Targeted
At the July 17 Loveland Village Council meeting the Marshall was instructed to arrest anyone driving machines over the speed limit of fifteen miles per hour within corporate limits. Complaints over fast driving prompted the effort. Marshall John Parker made two arrests on Wednesday.

In a hot spell Lou Bauer sought relief in a barn loft while arranging hay. He recovered with his wife’s help and continued work. Jesse Halbisch fell from a hay load, struck his head, sprained a wrist and bruised an elbow but is recovering well. A festival is planned by the Ladies Helping Circle and Men’s Bible Class at Mt Holly school grounds on Saturday evening August 11, 1928.
