One of 30 County Parolees Violates Trust
Thirty former Clermont County residents and others were considered for parole in 1958 by the Ohio Pardon and Parole Commission. Seven thousand six hundred thirteen hearings occurred across multiple facilities with burglary leading lists, and parole violations dropped 21.3 percent from 1957 to 1958 due to improved selection and supervision. Amelia Bever ly Gooch, 12, of 897 Ohio Pike, was notified as a winner in the Bucky Beaver Name the Shaggy Dog contest, with a prize option of a bicycle or an English sheep dog from one hundred winners nationally.

State Representative Charles W. Jackson of Glen Este was named outstanding freshman by the House after an 8 to 7 vote over Kenneth Creasey. Jackson, a Batavia attorney and 1951 Salmon P. Chase Law School graduate, ranked 21st among outstanding members and has served as Clermont County Juvenile Court referee since 1956. He is a World War II veteran who served in the US Air Force in England.

Firemen's Festival Slated in Newtonsville
Newtonsville Volunteer Fire Department plans a festival July 23 to 25 on Rt 131 across from the Newtonsville school with a 7 30 parade tonight. Chief LeRoy Wilson says the event will be bigger and better, with rides games booths social and refreshment served by the auxiliary and booths from Boy Scouts Wayne Civic Club and more. Proceeds fund equipment for fire and life squads. the department has operated since 1950 with 45 runs this year for the fire department and 100 for the life squad.

Health Commissioner Dr. J. C. Spence warned that pre-school immunization clinics may cease if volunteers remain scarce. Four clinics were held in July with Goshen and Williamsville well staffed, but Moscow and Bethel lacked helpers. Of 172 children screened, about 20 percent were ineligible. Vaccination depends on volunteer support and timely screenings, with local funds and modest state vaccine constraints noted. Goshen clinic rescheduled to August 4 at the Goshen fire house.

Duncan, of Eight Miles Rd., Newtown, was arrested after police found him towing a stolen motor boat and trailer behind his car. Investigators say he also stole a lawnmower, a rowboat, a three room trailer and a trailer from Larry Welsh Trailer Homes. Police question Duncan about additional thefts in the area.

Library Zoning Change Clears Way for New Batavia Library
Batavia city council at a special meeting Friday night reclassified a Third and Broadway lot from residential to business to enable Harry Kahle to construct a library building. The library board will lease it for 10 years. Vice Mayor Walter Haglage presided in Mayor Jamieson’s vacation absence.

Buckshot Crew Reunion Plans After 25 Germany Missions
The Buckshot B-17 crew from Squadron 509 of the 351st Bomb Group will hold a reunion July 24 to 26 at Roscoe Tyler’s home on Rt. 5 in Batavia. This is the unit’s first gathering since completing 25 missions over Germany in 1943. Eight of ten crew members are expected. two remain in the Air Force, according to Tyler.
