Fire roars through Sullivan farm near Goshen
A Sunday fire of unknown origin swept across hundreds of acres of stubble fields weeds and woodland on the Sullivan farm near Goshen. It burned for five hours as Blan chester and Loveland departments plus over 1000 volunteers battled with wet brooms and sacks. One tenant house valued at 2000 was unoccupied and several fences outbuildings were destroyed. Water was scarce and one man collapsed from heat. Smokers along the road were warned to discard live embers carefully.

Kirgan, Former Weslco Mayor, Dies at 69
Funeral services were held at his Amelia home for David E. Kirgan aged 69. He founded Kirgan Brothers Arcadia Farm Products Co. in Amelia and led civic efforts in Weslco, where he was mayor and Gulf Coast Orchards Company president at his death. Survived by widow Katherine Molloy Kirgan and son James Bey, with brothers J W Cleve and Clarence Kirgan. He died in Cincinnati’s Good Samaritan hospital. Interment in Goshen.
