A countywide audit of Clermont County reveals excess tax levies totaling 12830 dollars and a 33639.14 building fund transfer, with widespread irregularities in tax distribution and officer fees. The report attacks the old guard, names multiple former auditors and commissioners, and calls for enforcement of the law amid calls for reform.
Reports show a combined shortage exceeding 40 000 over 12 years and 4 months with an average above 3000 annually. John W Davis and H Penn Williams received over 18000 together, while Davis alone surpassed 60000. Clermont county paid auditors about 75000 for 12 years of service.
The county auditor redistributes funds wrongly allocated in 1901 after examination by State examiner Lindsey. His report shows thousands of dollars needing reallocation and a complete settlement for 1910 over again. The August 1908 settlement will include the apportionment for 1909.
