Ohio Eyes Fast Track for Appalachian Highway Pilot Study

Ohio highway officials seek to have the state named a pilot for expediting the Appalachian Development Highway System. The plan covers 176 miles from Clermont County to Belpre, linking I-275 to Belpre with a $72.8 million cost split 70 30 federal to state. Masheter seeks BPR approval for development and demonstration studies and preliminary engineering. Governor Rhodes supports the project as a boost to regional growth.

Annexation Injunction Continued in New Richmond Case

Judge John 4H Georgetown presiding at hearings Monday on annexation of Pierce Township land to the Village of New Richmond and incorporation of Union and part of Pierce Township. Order extended to July 28 restraining county commissioners from a public hearing and gave legal counsel to July 24 to file briefs in answer. Residents of Union and Pierce Townships joined in the incorporation appeal. motions to dismiss the appeal were taken under advisement with 10 days for briefs supporting lack of jurisdiction.

Judge Nichols Among Noted Judges At Trial College

Clermont County Common Pleas Judge Harold D. Nichols of Batavia joins more than 100 judges from 45 states at a national trial college. U S Supreme Court Justice Tom C Clark chairs the college directors and participates in sessions on judicial administration methods being developed nationwide.

Seton School Sewage Injunction May Allow Stay Open

A $250000 Elizabeth Seton School in Mulberry may stay open after a Clermont County suit to delay an injunction that prohibited discharge from the school’s sewage plant. Archbishop Alter seeks to modify the restraining order as area residents push for a county sewer system in Miami Township. The 325 students were blocked from Milford Exempted Village Schools due to facilities. A July 14 hearing in Cincinnati will consider compromising two bankruptcy claims against Otis C Steele estate.

Bethel Hardware Damaged In Blaze

Bethel Shield's Hardware at 120 W Plane St was damaged in a blaze of undetermined origin last Wednesday night. Fire Chief Charles Grover said observers reported smoke at 7 45 pm and the store had closed at 6 pm. Damage exceeded 1000 dollars with additional smoke damage to merchandise. A second juvenile traffic school session took place in Clermont County Court with Pts. M. L. Owens of the State Highway Patrol Mt. Carmel as instructor. Sgt. Lou Cornthwaite praised youth interest as twenty students referred by Judge Orville Halbisch attended the session sponsored by the Highway Patrol and Juvenile Court. Patriarch Of Pond Run Dies At 97 In Cincinnati

Judge John W. Haussermann, longtime wealth builder dubbed the Patriarch of Pond Run, died at 97 in Holmes Hospital Cincinnati after a mild stroke. He built a fortune via mining stock and served as Manila city attorney and lawyer in Kansas City. He will be buried in Green Mound Cemetery New Richmond with visitation at Lew F. White Funeral Home. He leaves two sons, a granddaughter, grandsons and six great grandchildren.

Ohio Supreme Court denies Mary Greimann mandamus seeking to force county to repair and designate Wilshire Circle as a public road after 850 feet remained private.
