Low bids named for 1965 county road program work

Apparent low bidders for 1965 county road surface treatment include L. P. Cavett Co of Lockland at 22 437 and William Light Construction Co of Cherry Grove at 46 440 with four firms listed. Total bids 239 551 under the 250 357 engineering estimate and 81 miles of road to be completed by October 15.

Township trustees approve gear and July meeting changes

Union Township trustees in regular session June 26 approved purchasing a hydraulic jack for trucks to be kept at the cemetery and sealer for the township hall driveway. July meetings move to July 17 and July 31. A unanimous resolution seeks a Nov 2 ballot renewal of a one mill levy for five years for fire protection. Total expenditures recorded: Cemetery Fund 851.30 Road Fund 385.10 MVL Fund 476.71 General Fund 1610.69 Misc 1095.47.

Huheey Receives NSF Grant for Salamander Study

Dr. James E. Huheey has been awarded a three year National Science Foundation grant to study salamander variation in the southern Appalachian Mountains. The project titled Variation in the Blue Ridge Mountain Dusky Salamander will be conducted at Highlands Biological Station and Great Smoky Mountains National Park, continuing work begun in 1962.

Refinancing of MGS System Authorized

Refunding of the MGS Water system approved with $3,115,000 in revenue bonds issued to fund refunding bonds for the MGS Water department.

Town Bury Time Capsule Marking 150th Birthday

The town will bury a time capsule on the municipal building lawn at 8 p.m. July 22 to commemorate the village's 150th birthday. The capsule is to be opened in 2014 and a dedication tablet will be unveiled at the quicentennial ceremony.

John Crum has acquired Clermont Motors at 616 620 West Plane St from Philip Hutson after Hutson owned the shop for 15 years. Crum has operated the repair and body shop for four years and announced his plan to run the business under new ownership.

Batavia Zoning Activity Heats Up With Multiple Approvals

Batavia Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals approved Sohio station plans on Kyle Moyer property at Main and Route 132. Also greenlit were Charles Lewis brick four family units on Market Street between Spring and Broadway. An Elmer Kramer building addition for office use and exterior improvements was approved. The board recommended rezoning sections along Clermont Avenue and adjacent waterworks from residential to general business.
