Clermont County commissioners accept a $18 500 offer for the Standard Oil station and adjoining jail lot after the owner asked 30 000 The site may be used for jail expansion and includes a rear parcel leased as a county parking area.

Batavia Council Adopts Budget and Raises Pay

Batavia council approved the 1968 budget with a general fund of 49600 and real estate valuation for tax at 6800000. They raised councilmen pay from 10 to 15 dollars per meeting and board of public affairs pay from 8 to 12 dollars. Homer Wilson was named building inspector and zoning administrator at 600 dollars a year, succeeding James Barbeau. Thomas Middendorf resigned from the zoning board and planning commission.

Batavia Festival Marks Fire Department Benefit

Batavia hosts a two day festival July 21 22 to aid the Fire Department and Life Squad with a parade at 6 pm Friday. The event offers booths rides and continuous social with a Honda Super 90 as major prize. Housing Authority Appointments Ruling Expected

A state opinion settles who appoints two members to the housing authority covering New Richmond Bethel and Felicity. The court says villages count as cities and the largest community will appoint the two members. A bill to grant village status under the housing authority law is proposed.

John Rapp was found dead after an illness and missing days. Services were held at Moore Funeral Home Batavia with burial at Batavia Cemetery. Rapp leaves Elena his wife Sandra L. a daughter and Eloise Rapp his mother.

Milford man arrested in Chicago vice raid

Robert Woosey aged 25 of 58 Crestview Drive Milford was apprehended with eight men and two women in a Chicago vice squad raid after a ten night surveillance. Officers confiscated five automatic pistols and charged the group with unlawful weapon use and being inmates of a disorderly house.

Mrs Lois Brown of Milford resigns as president and member of the Clermont County Community Action Commission effective immediately. Her resignation letter states it will serve as notice of her immediate resignation from the chairmanship and the commission.

County Recorder William Shebesta reported June fees of 2484 versus 2360 a year earlier. June deeds 288 mortgages 178 financing statements 354. mortgage totals 4128943 up from 2224869 last June. Buckeye Savings Assn loaned 1829250. Clermont Treasurer Byron Ross announced real estate tax bills for the second half of 1966 will be mailed this week with August 15 as the payment deadline.

County Airport Assured By State Grant Offer

Rep. William H. Mussey said a $100000 state grant was set aside for a county airport project. Rev. D. G. Lach, head of Clermont Industrial Parks Inc, reported that attorneys are working on the land title to be turned over to county commissioners.

Old Road Receives Dual Names From Route 32 Change

The highway from Batavia to Mt. Carmel now bears two names Old Rt. 74 and Cincinnati Batavia Pike on signs to offer choice for residents and businesses. Commissioners accepted assistant clerk Jean Stevens’s resignation after long service since January 1965 and noted she destroyed 272 records. Building permits in June totaled 30 new permits worth 248 130 dollars, seven remodeling permits at 15 978 dollars, with 484 dollars in permit and occupancy fees. A petition to transfer May Street in Union to county was rejected.

Two Die in Clermont County Traffic Crashes

Walter T. R. Salyers, 62, of New Richmond, and William Lyle, 18, of Goshen, died in separate weekend crashes in Clermont County. Salyers collided with Willard Webb on U S 52 near New Richmond. Webb suffered head and facial injuries. Lyle lost control on Rt 133 near Edenton, was thrown from the car, and was buried at Williamsburg Cemetery after services in Milford. Surviving relatives include Salyers’ neighbors and Lyle’s family in Goshen and Williamsburg.
